If the pump chatters I suggest you get yourself a large accumulator tank. Put 20 or 30 psi air pressure in it, the pump will run intermittently and never chatter again. The chattering is more than just annoying it a waste of energy and destructive to the pump.

Depends, on how far I open it. Full open the pump will run continuously. Closed down a bit it will cycle. An accumulater tank will reduce the cycling, if you have room for the tank.

Some pumps have a screw in the end that you can turn to adjust and make it run continuously when the faucet is on full. Sometimes it isn't properly adjusted when you get it.

The manual for my SureFlow pump has instructions on setting the pump using the screw mentioned above. It says to open a faucet just enough to allow a small stream and adjust the screw untill the pump cycles about every couple of seconds.
When you open the faucet more the pump should then run continuously,

My ShurFlo pulsates (hammers?). I just ordered a new 4008 that is supposed to be better.

I generally turn the faucet on full, and the pump runs, when I cut it off, the pump stops as well. Sounds like your pump cannot adjust to a changing water supply which may be normal. Adjusting pressure as others have suggested may work for you, good luck.
