What if slide won't retract?

When talking to a friend that has a 35 Itasca, he mentioned having a wrench to bring his slide in if the motor failed. Got me to wandering how I would get my slide in if it quit working . I would appreciate any information . We have 06 Adventurer 38R two slides.

You're right I must have had a senior moment I kept thinking I don't have a wrench ! Plum forgot about reading about releasing the pressure and finding a few bodies to push. Sorry I posted !

Didn’t mean to be so abrupt with my “read the manual” and I apologize. I had scanned that portion of my manual but didn’t really study it hard until the time came to try it. (It’s the it will never happen to me syndrome). If it’s a HWH system like mine I suggest you locate the valve release mechanism before you have to do so under pressure so to speak. My driver’s side manual retract system was ruined due to a lack of understanding of the importance of following the instructions in the manual. I was able to "Rube-Goldberg" a way to get the slide back in but it wasn’t fun.

I carry a battery powered drill with me, carryover from TT days and cranking the stabilizer jacks down and up. The one time I had to manually retract the front slide on our Journey 34H, instead of using that wrench - after opening valves to release hydraulic pressure - I used a socket with the drill and made quick work of pulling the slide in.

We're new RV'ers and had LR slide out and could not get it to retract.
Called HWH for info and was given solenoid valve locations.
Then called Good Sams club for road service. Tech opened release valve as indicated by HWH and tried to crank in the slide. All of a sudden a loud popping noise on each slide retraction nut. Tech must have opened wrong valve and was turning manual nut against hydraulic pressure. Slide did not move and retraction nut now free wheeling. Tech gave up and left. Finally got a local RV service tech who managed to retract slide (enough to drive RV) by playing with the correct solenoid valve. RV now in shop replacing bad HWH valves and manual retraction parts.

Moral of the story:
1. Learn each valve location for slides (and jacks) before problem occurs
2. Carry some tools
3. Get a service tech that knows what he's doing
4. You may want to carry spare valves (HWH has 8 week delivery on valves)

Gosh I forgot about part availibilty !! I waited over a month for a soleniod for my HWH jacks. One would think they would have spares to ship and replentish inventory as they use them ?? The tech told me Hwh makes their own parts, so why aren't they able to keep up? Eight weeks is a long time for those of us that use our RV's !

Eight weeks? Good gosh. I may be having problems with mine and never figured anything like 8 weeks. They've mailed me other parts in just a few days so figured they had all parts available within a couple days or so.

EIGHT WEEKS -That is totally unsatisfactory HWH! They must be having a much higher failure rate than anticipated to end up in such a situation or, who ever plans their production rate should get some training. Doesn't anyone else make a suitable replacement part? In a short conversation with my local HWH mechanic he indicated that solonoid valve failures lead other problems with the HWH systems but he didn't think it was worth carrying spares. But EIGHT WEEKS? At least they are somewhat interchangeable.

Guess its not much worse than having to wait 24-48 hours just for a return call by Tech for help when you're broke down out on the road someplace. When you call they never ask if its an emergency or just needing some basic information or help.
