I have a 2006 Winnebago Journey 36G that was broken into earlier this week. The low life's smashed the window on the entry door, turned opened the dead bolt lock, but then jerked open the door and appear to have broken the lower lock latching mechanism as it will now not latch at all. I have ordered new door lock parts and they hopefully will arrive tomorrow.

Are there any tips on how to best install this? I see the three screws on the interior door plate, and once removed, the door lock set can be moved around, separated somewhat, but doesn't just come apart and come out. It appears to be attached some how to the spring powered strike latch mechanism. That is the piece that is now not latching tight when the door is closed. Any removal and installation tips would be appreciated.

I had some time today to work on the door latch mechanism and was able to get the whole thing working again. Apparently a fair amount of the broken glass from the window had gotten into the mechanism. I took the interior door panel completely off, unscrewed the three screws holding the inside of the lock and the outside of the lock together, and was able to get somewhat into the latch area, then loosend up the side screws that hold the latch mechanism to the side of the door and by using a powerful shop vac and just moving things around and pushing here and there, I was able to free up the mechanism after some pieces of the broken glass fell out.

The only thing not working now is the remote unlock and lock function. It appears that the electromechanical lever just isn't working. The lights flash, porch light comes on when unlock is pushed, but no movement on the door part.

I checked the wires to it while I had the door panels off, but did not see any short or anything. When I have some more time tomorrow, I will check the voltage and see what is happening when the function key is pressed. Remote operates the cargo doors just fine.

Anyone know the best way to test the remote lock mechanism? Is Winnebago the only supply for a replacement?

Clayton--

I went through an ordeal with the whole lock mechanism and when the dealer replaced the lock and put everything back together the remote lock was the only thing that wasn't working...the technician had forgotten to reattach the linkage from the plunger to the lock. I assume that since you could see the wiring to the lever that you would have noticed if the linkage was intact or not, but you might take a look at that. The entire lock assembly can be removed from the door by completely removing those screws in the side of the door that you just loosened up. Hope this helps.

I was able to get the door lock working today. While trying to use the elctronic locking mechanism when the glass was jammed in the latch mechanism, it tripped the circuit breaker for the door lock itself. While the remote system was working, there was no power to the driver's side door lock switch or to the door. Once the circuit breaker was reset, all is working again.

By the way, the glass for the passengar window was $312 from Winnebago, plus about $35 shipping. Local glass company is going to install for $200.00 on Monday. Once that is done, all that will be left is to re-screen the screen door.

Rather than just replacing the screen in the door you should install the new rollup screen--it's great! Roll up screen for entry door
