We have extremely heavy rains last night and I now have a leak in the top of the passenger side windshield. What type of chalking is best to use on the Journey's windshield?

I once had a windshield leak where there was a gap along the top driver's side. The windshield replacement business shown below used some kind of thick black sealant urethane type 418. This special urethane requires additional drying time. Do not use Silicone... (Very Bad for windshields). In the case of a motorhome, the process, the adhesives and procedures could be vastly different from autos.

And if the windshield is separating from the frame, it should be reset before breakage. In motorhomes, this is a common occurrence over time.

Some experts to speak with.....

Jack and Peg,
You need to check that real, real close. There have been problems with the Winnebago windshield. Where it fits into the frame there seems to be rusted areas developing. Caulking will not help in the long run. It will need a good body repair person to repair the rusted areas and protect the entire area against future rust, if that is possible. My 2008 developed this problem. When it rained against the windshield, or I was traveling in a rain, water would leak down the inside of the windshield. I was very fortunate in that I was covered under warranty. You will have to pull the fascia on the inside to see the areas that may be affected. It truly needs an expert to repair it correctly.

Good luck.

As already mentioned, Polyurethane would be what you need to use around the windshield. Check out your running lights as well as they have been the source of leaks many times.

Thanks all for your input. I took off the inner molding and found a little surface rust which is not a real problem. I will lightly sand it and paint it with Rustoleum that combines with any rust and stops it. I used the product on some surface rust on the cargo bays and it works great. I will chalk the outside gasket with Proflex RV that was recommended to me from a Winnie owner that had the same problem and stopped the leak. Glad I found the problem before the rust got too advanced.
