I ask this question as my 1990 Elandan (with about 96K km on it) sits at a Ford dealership awaiting installation of the second "power steering box" in two and a half years.

Is this just bad luck with a "bad" rebuild of the power steering box that just "blew"? Is it too much heat?

I'm scratching my head!

Ciao,

Doug

I had always heard that cranking your steering wheel ALL the way to the right or left and keeping it there, even tho you hear a whine or straining sound, is bad for the hoses and seals.

I am currently working at an auto parts store. I can tell you that we are experiencing some dificulties with our vendor of Steering Gearboxs. They happen to be the largest suplier of reman's in the country, which easily could mean that you ended up with a bad one. It happends, which is why most reman parts have an extended warrentee on them.

Good luck with the next one.

Hi Scooter,

I don't consciously turn the steering to stops--it's possible that I do that unconsciously

And Moder2, I'm hoping my situation is just bad luck. Yet, I'm wondering if the power steering pump is delivering too high a pressure, that might cause a problem.

So, what sort of checks should the Ford techies run after installation of the new steering box to assure them (and me) that all related funcitons are within specs?

Ciao,

Doug
