I cannot find any information in our documentation what this air intake is for. My guess is either cab AC or intercooler.

This looks like the street side. On mine this one is for the transmission cooler I was told. The AC coil is on the other side.

The coil and fan you see is the " Condencer Coil "for the road air conditioning. The fan will be on when you set the A/C selector to cool.Above the coil is the air intake for the engine.

On our '03 Journey, the cab AC condensor coils live behind that grill. (2) DC fans.
