Wind Sensor?

Hi Guys:

I know where the wind sensor switch is, where is the wind sensor itself?

I presumed it was on the roof? How do I know when it is up or down? I presume it sticks up when active and goes down when in-active?

I dunno...... LOL

Little white plastic thingy about the size of a small dixie cup on the front center of the roof. No moving parts--I think it detects a temperature differential caused by wind blowing past it.

Mine is an Awning Pro and the sensor is on the end of the brace near the roller on the forward arm. It's on the top side and is silver in color.

The sensor is on the roof and the control is in an outside storage cabinet. It is a black box with Weather Pro written on the front of the box. The auto/manual switch is on the left side of the box.
If it doesn't work don't worry about it. It's the norm.

Hi Guys:

Yeah, I thought the (little lighthouse) (Dixie Cup) thingie was it. But when I was on top of the roof foolin with it... it didn't go up or down.

I found the switch long ago in the outside storage compartment near front door. I still don't know if the darn thing works or not.

Trying to get ready for spring camp outs. I just ordered three new MCD blinds for the remaining big windows in the coach.

I installed a MCD Duo Blind on pasenger side over the couch last year. What a PIA to install.

It's gotta get warmer some time soon here in the Northeast....

Jim - one thing to keep in mind is that the wind sensor only controls the big awning. At least that's the way it seemed to work on mine. We were in AZ, a gust of wind came along and the big awning retracted but the door awning did not. Perhaps it does control the door awning but I sisn't trust it.

The sensor is on the roof and it looks like a little lighthouse. I think it has something that turns inside with the wind. If it is too fast, in it goes. For all it's worth, I don't use the automatic feature. I turned it on onetime and I got tired opening it back up. If anyone within fifty feet passed gas, the awning rolled up. NO, it does not control anything but the main awning.

Mine is also on the end of the support arm at the roller on the front arm. It's chrome colored. I have mine set to 12 mph and have never seen it roll it self up.

Factory set is 20 mile an hour sustained wind, course a gust can still tear awning off. Seldom used the sensor best to tie awning down or put it up. Black box can't be trusted, after replacing 3, we had our awnings wired direct bi passing box and sensor and just put them up and down as needed.

I would agree. DON"T trust the wind sensor. It seems to either work with the slightest breese, or it takes a huricane, and it depends on what day of the week it is. If you tie your awning down, be sure you switch OFF the wind sensor.

There are 3 common wind sensors in use today

Type 1: A&E Lighthouse,, This is described above, a small structure which on my coach is on the passenger side roof, about 3-4 inches high as I recall w/o measuring and perhaps 3 in diamater the "Roof" is raised on small pillars.

My opinion of this device is not very good.

Type 2 is a 3-cup anemometer This device is often located in about the same place and spins in the wind.

The 3rd type is a motion sensor in the end of the awning arm.. It senses movement of the arm.

I've had SIX (6) total Wx Pro systems (sensor; ctl box) in my rig. The sixth does not work, as all the others. I am the wind sensor. I do it (electrically).

Ours is the little lighthouse on the roof. We had trouble with it going up when our neighbor would break wind. We found out that there is a set of dip switches inside the control box. You can change the sensitivity depending on which switches are on. This is in the owner's manual or you can get it from Dometic.
