Smile Winnie 2014 Journey 34B rock guard

John b here first time user. I can not keep my rock guard on. The least bit of elevation change. ( filling station, intersection, RV park, etc. the rock guard folds up under the tow hitch which is now dragging the ground and off it comes. I disscussed this with Winnabago if maybe there was a better location for the guard. But there answer is thats where it's should be mounted. Seems to me Winnabago is not good at owning up to design flaws. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Also having slide problems. It's in CW now for a warranty fix . Keeping my fingers crossed. HELP A Merry Christmas to all.

Welcome!
I removed my rock guard years ago. My theory is the rock guard interfears with air flow under the coach causing drag and reducing fuel economy.
My rock guard had a hole caused when the tow bar dragged when going over a low spot but it never came off.
If you want to keep the rock guard perhaps cut out the section where the tow bar would hit allowing the tow bar to drag on the concrete.

Never thought about doing without rock guard. Might give it a try. Thanks. It's a $600.00 throw away. whew. Also thought about 2 inch steel wheels at base of tow receiver. Has anyone done that? Appreciate the comments. john

Great suggestion there.

We traveled over 12k miles Summer 2013 w/o our "rock guard" to avoid the damage they cause on gravel roads. I keep detailed records and saw no noticeable difference in fuel mileage. Mine could lay flat and not reach the hitch ...rides the recommended 6-8" above the road surface at ride height. If it were damaged, I would not spend $1 to replace it.
