We have a 27K. My thoughts on the dinette vs couch issue are that if it is just two people, as it is for the wife and I, the couch is a better option. The TV is perfectly placed for a couch seating arrangement and lounging on the dinette isn't super comfortable. We carry two big body pillows to make it more convenient and while those work, I find myself restringing the window screen often. As for storage space, there is plenty. You will need to organize the rear trunk in some fashion though. I use storage containers from Costco, the big black ones with the yellow lids.

We are just two adults and for us a dinette was a no go. To watch TV sideways is painful. We are full timing for 3 months and for us there's plenty of room without the need for dinette storage. There's storage up above, too. The trunk storage, as mentioned, is roomy and can be divided up to suit your needs.

Tv removal

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THE FRONT TV FROM A 2009 30C? I have looked and see no way to access the back.
Thanks

You have the pull trim, which will expose some screws which remove the main wood frame around it.....then there is a metal frame that is unscrewed. It is never coming coming out on it's own, that's for sure!

We asked the salesman of our 2013 Aspect and he showed us that the narrow strip on either side of the tv needs to be carefully pried off and that will expose screws that will take off the wood frame that the tv is enclosed in. We were going to try to make room for larger tv but when he was explaining all of the procedure to do it.....it sounded like too much work : )

That trim seems to be glued on very well, I tried to pry it off but it will be destroyed in the process. Had trouble with the TV reception last trip, found that if I pushed on the bottom left hand corner the problem went away. Could fail at any time, also want to get to the back to hook up another hdmi cable. Thanks for your help. We're off to Alaska this spring, alot of bouncing around

Are you referring to the Aspect 27K? If so, it was an option from the factory when ordered.

30J Carry Weight

Hello All,

New to the forum. I am going to be looking at a used 30J, and was hoping someone could give me a general idea of CCCW for the unit?

Thanks

Terry

Answered my own question. Was able to see the 30J yesterday, and this one has a CCCW of 1777. I have some additional questions though if anyone has input, thanks.

The unit I am looking at is a 2015 30J with 16500mi on it. Seems to have most of the options available (full paint, NAV, tankless WH, dual pane, 40in TV, air bed, upgraded upolstery). Unit looked good. Did not get it out on the highway (plan to next week), but did get to drive it in the lot. It sounded good and seemed to run fine. This is 2nd owner, and she said they only made 1 trip with it and have had it for a year.

My 1st question not being a full-time cross country RVer, is, does this sound unusual to anyone? The OO must have put the lion share of miles on it, and then just up and sold it after 1 year (which I suppose happens with full-timers). The 2nd owner, well that IMO could be a domestic situation possibly (but who knows). Just raises a few hairs that a 2yr old unit is already headed for a 3rd owner.

As mentioned, I am not a full timer, but would like to travel a little with the wife and dog for short fishing get-aways. Can anyone share experience with the Aspect as used standalone in a campground with little (electrical only) or no services. 34 gallons of FW seems a little on the low side for a 3 - 4 day outing.

These units look pretty low slung, has anyone had issues in semi primitive (we are not talking off-roading) dirt road camp sites? Does it drag tail or hit that low exhaust pipe when going up or down a road hump/hill?

Is there any opinions on something specific to the Aspect I should look closely at in particular (where you may have seen issues)?

Would any of you be put off by the 5 speed transmission in the 2015 vs the 6 speed in the 16-17? I live in Colorado, so will be a lot of mountain driving.

This unit is a little longer at 32ft than what I was looking at (27-30), but what is an extra 2ft I suppose.

Thanks for any input.

Terry

The 5 speed isn't an issue. I want the 5 star on mine but not bad enough to pay for it. The 2 feet may make handling a LITTLE worse but again, it handles too good to spend money on track bars or shocks.

It's no an off road truck. If you are planning on going on rutted dirt roads this thing isn't probably what you want. Then again, I've never seen a state park I wouldn't take mine into.

I don't dry camp much at all. I've never stayed over 2 nights with elect. only. I agree the tanks are a little small but i think they are normal for this size coach. My wife and I are pretty spoiled to sewer, etc. Somebody else needs to answer this one.

I would have somebody check seals and do a thorough inspection. Generator, etc. The 16,000 miles is about normal. The 2 owners in 2 years is a red flag but then again, maybe they got everything fixed or maybe they both wanted a bigger coach?

I special ordered mine and with a few changes I could tell you I think it's nearly perfect for us. I wish it were 50 amp with two AC and a bigger generator. I wish the idiot engineer who opened the tv toward the dinette instead of the driver's side so I could see the TV head on from my electric recliner had flunked his final interview at WBG. I wish I had a smaller, lighter toad (my Ford Explorer is an the verge of being too heavy).

We downsized from a 40 foot diesel. We bought a house in Florida and decided we didn't need that length. We did a 3 week trip all the way to the west coast and it was comfortable. We are going to Alaska in 2018 and the jury is out on whether to drag the car.

Please ask any more questions you want. I know it's a big purchase.

We recently sold our 2011 28B. I would look at the 27K model in your situation, the 28B was identical in length. The extra almost 3 feet of rear end on the 30J would not be advantageous. The Ford class C has pretty a big turning radius. I think the water capacity is fine if you are careful. The handling in the mountains is pretty good when you realize that the engine performs best at high rpm's and is designed to do so. The tow/haul downshifting when descending grades works very well. On I70 heading west down Vail pass for example I would brake very occasionally maintaining 45 mphs at around 4500 rpm's - the high rpm's will hold your speed nicely. Last, upgrade to Koni shocks and a rear track bar from Henderson's Lineup and the rig will handle amazingly well. Without it is ok, but the difference is worth it.

We really liked ours and will be replacing it with a new 27K when the 2018's become available. I would highly suggest the automatic leveling jacks.

Dave is right about the turning radius. My 40 footer would turn tighter than the Ford. That's not an issue for me anywhere except at fillups. I've driven trucks off and on forever and can judge pretty well. I haven't unhooked yet. It will come.

We looked at all the models and special ordered. The 30J seemed like the right one to us. As to the jacks, I'm pretty sure they are standard on the 15.

Thanks

Wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to post replies to my questions. Very helpful. We are still in the look and decide mode, trying to find what is right for us, so this kind of input is invaluable to a newbie.
