Winnebago/Itasca Mods , Fixes & Tips

Hello everyone,

I wish to invite anyone and everyone out there who owns a Winnebago/Itasca of any year to share their mods/fixes/tips.

Please include photos/video if possible too!

Also please post a link to other threads/posts of the past if you know of any. I would like to start a "collection" of useful interesting info on this subject here.

I will do some searching and post links here, and post any mods/fixes/tips I perform on my rig as time goes on.

I am in hopes this will be a helpful thread for folks, and myself too as I look forward to seeing what ideas others have.

Thanks everyone, let's get 'er goin'!
Safe travels,
W.D.

Charging/Boost solenoid dead

House battery not charging while driving? Boost button doesn't work? very common problem.

Winnebago used a simple solenoid to connect the batteries until just a few years ago (2012?).

One of MANY threads here.

Some others.

A typical setup on a Winnebago gasser:

A video (that is about the disconnect solenoid, but shows where the above picture actually is):

Inline EMS installed in View 24V

We have a 2016 Winnebago View 24V, I installed an inline Progressive Industries Electrical Management System (EMS) to protect the electrical system from both external and onboard generator sources. I used the EMS box to replace the former junction box for the cord to house wiring, and mounted it above the generator receptacle.

Fixed kinked water line...

Since we picked up this new View, and its too cold for us to camp, I have plenty of time to check things out before our summer outings. One thing I noticed when running the wiring for the remote EMS display was that the flexible water hose was kinked when the winterizing kit was installed.

I removed the kinked portion of the flexible hose and a short piece of the original PEX tubing to fix the problem. I also put a spring strain relief on the hose from an old camco water filter just in case. If you have weak water flow from the pump you may want to look for this issue as it came from the factory this way apparently.

We purchased a new 2015 winnie journey and the only thing to date has been an annoying issue is the entry door shade clip which is made of soft plastic and screwed onto the door with 2 self tapping screws.

It cracked the first week we used it and it was easy to miss the mark and have the shade fly off and retract followed by a most annoying loud noise. It took some time in the hardware store to find the perfect solution and at first I plan to make it the same width as the old one.

Well as luck would have it I found a piece of aluminum MD channel 25/64" X 1/2" X 1/16" x48" which is used as edging on plywood. By cutting it slightly shorter than the shade with the creates a full length hook for the shade

Another kinked hose

I was looking under the galley sink a few weeks ago and found another kinked hose. When the faucet was installed the fasteners were tightened down to the point that the plate holding the faucet was deformed enough to pinch the cold water riser and damage it. Then it appears when the water filter connection was made and tightened the hose was twisted and kinked!
The risers, while removable, are not off the shelf generic items, they have a male threaded connector with two O rings where they go into the faucet. I called Lichtsinn RV to see if I could order a replacement riser, but was informed that they were not sold separately. Working with the Lichtsinn service department I was able to get a replacement faucet shipped to me under warranty from Winnebago as this damage was done at the factory. Here are some photos. If you happen to have weak water flow, or leakage out of your galley faucet, you may want to look for this issue - I am guessing the same plumber worked on more than one of our rigs. Its also a good thing for new buyers to look for as you do your walk through-obviously we did not look for these plumbing issues.

Also, upon mounting the new faucet, it became apparent that not enough space was allowed between the faucet and the galley window so when the faucet handle is moved to the hot position it hits the galley mini-blind and will not turn on fully. I rotated the faucet 90 degrees clockwise so the handle is over the sink. This allows the handle to open fully in all positions, and also keeps water from collecting behind the sink.

Winnebago/Itasca Mods , Fixes & Tips

Up graded my 120 volt power system I have dual air and a 5500 gold generator. My power cord is 30 amp so I came up with a fix. I added a second transfer switch it is manual one. Bought a 50 amp shore power with a dual 30 amp plugs. So now on shore power I have the water heater and rear air conditioner tied to its own power. Installed 2 volt and amp meters and 1 frequency meter.

Our 2016 View 24V has two places to position a table, one in front of the couch and one between the swiveling seats, but the table that came with the unit is too large to use between the seats, so I made a small coffee/cocktail table.
