BobChill, glad to hear that you got your Minnie! I think you will enjoy it for years to come.

Kerr Lake is a great place to camp. We have been there a number of times as it is only 30 miles or so from our house. There is also a Corp of Engineers campground there with electric and water hookups. You have to use the dump station when you leave. The bath houses are usually in good shape.

There are state parks on both the NC and VA sides. Most sites have water and electric, but only a few have sewer.

When camping in August, bring bug spray. They are usually plentiful!

Enjoy!!

I remember somewhere in this thread someone had a bike rack installed on their rear ladder. Is there a preferred brand of rack? Is the ladder strong enough on all models of trailers? Do you guys think a ladder bike rack would work on my 2016 2451 bhs? Thanks!

We used a Swagman bike rack on our first Minnie, a 2101DS. It worked well and the ladder was plenty strong.

The same bike rack now supports a Tote-N-Stor on our latest Minnie.

Thanks big bird. In your opinion should I be safe to hang two bikes off the ladder. Or does anyone else do the same with a 2451bhs?

It will probably be an adult bike and a kids bike. The adult bike mounted closest to the ladder. I'll add a ratchet strap or two to reduce bouncing around. Maybe I'm just worrying too much lol.

I don't have a clue what other people do about a bike rack on a 2451bhs. I do know that this one is more than strong enough for two adult bikes. These Swagman are really sturdy.

This is a very timely topic for me. We left Thursday for our spring break trip with 4 bikes on a bumper mounted hitch carrier. After about 200 miles I noticed that the bumper had angled down. I ratchet strapped it to the ladder for some support which helped but also bent the ladder.

The bumper itself isn't twisted or bent as far as I can tell but it seems to have slid on the bolts. It's hard to tell but are the bumper bolts in slots?

Needless to say, I moved the bikes into the trailer for the next leg of the trip.

This is on a 2019 2455BHS. Click image for larger version

I've seen the Safety Struts and even planned on getting some but as you can see in the picture they would not have made any difference in my situation. I need something much longer attaching to the trailer frame. The bumper support welds are intact. My understanding is that Safety Struts reinforce the weld area.

I understand what you are talking about. Here is what I think happened. The oscillating heavy weight of the bicycles caused the bolts to get a little loose wallowing out the frame or bumper bracket. It doesn't take a lot to get that kind of tilt. One work around might to remove the bumper, sand the paint down to bare metal, get some grade 8 bolts and nuts, mix up JB Weld epoxy and coat the sanded surfaced. Take the grade 8 bolts and tighten them really tight as you reassemble and level the bumper. This will probably fix this problem but with that heavy weight bouncing up and down something else may break. Here is a photo of my bumper.

We had this exact problem on our 2401RG and fixed it by adding self tapping bolts beside the Huck bolts and some 1 aluminum angle iron under each side. Works fine. Search for me on the Facebook site to see pictures. 2 differences: we had moved the spare tire to an under the TT mount when it was new; we only carry 2 bikes.
