The other day, as we prepared to leave our Salt Lake City home, I fliped on the windshield wipers to clear off the prior day's moisture. To my suprise, the wipers were actually frozen to the window and before I could react, the wiper fuse had blown.

Today was my first opportunity to purchase a new fuse and when I installed it and then tested the wipers, I could only get a "one sweep" pass of the windshield. No matter which button I push (I have the "Smart Wheel") the wipers make only one pass accross the window and then go to their resting position. The wipers will continue to work if I continue to hold down the "Hi/Lo" button.

Any ideas what's gone wrong?

Gosh - not a clue. I would run the situation by the techs at the Freightliner 800 number.

Ha! found the problem. Seems as though operating the wipers while the ignition key is in the accessory position limits the wiper action to "one swipe" each time the steering wheel button is pushed. If the engine is running then the wipers work "as advertised".

Not even the Freightliner "Help Desk" was aware of this.
