Wipers out of sync

I have a 1994 Winabago on a ford chassi. my wiper post on the right side broke so i replaced it.while it was broke i had to use them ;now when i turn them off they stop in the wrong position, stopping at the outside of the windsheild instead of the center .if i unhook the arm at the motor and index the wipers to the center and hook them back up will that work?my only alternative is to by a new wiper motor. hope somebody can help. Our does someone have a better idea. Has anyone had to do this repair before . Please help. thanks.

Sounds like you are 180° out. Disconnect one side and then move them both to the center ... providing that is the correct positioning. I've seen this before on cars and that was the solution.

ON the motor there is a shaft, it SHOULD always stop in the same position, If you re-index the odds are good the wipers will wipe DOWN onto the front of the vehicle not UP.

Now. depending on the wipers.. As I recall on the "Back" of the wiper shaft is a bell crank type lever, the arm from the motor pushes and pulls on this device to turn the shaft and operate the wipers.

Take a look at it, if the wipers are stopping OUT instead of IN, it may be that you need to remove the shaft, Rotate it about 180 degrees so the crank is opposite of what it is now (IE: If it's on top, put it on the bottom) then re-index the wipers. That should work.
