Are RV's like auto in that the manufacturer runs a standard wiring looms throughout the coach? My rig doesn't have the defrost fans, and I was thinking I may want them. Would the wiring already be in place?

If you had almost any other brand of motorhome in your signature, I would say 'probably no'. But you have a Winnebago product, and they do, in fact, build wiring harnesses, much like the auto industry, and even number every wire. So the chances are yes, the wiring for options not ordered with the coach, are in place.

If you find unused wiring and connectors, you can download the wiring diagrams for your coach, from Winnebago's website, and look up what option the wiring is for, and where it is goes. I know of no other motorhome manufacturer that does this.

When I went on an "on the floor " factory tour during the Grand National Rally a couple of years ago I saw them making the harnesses. Each harness is made for each individual unit per a build sheet and they said as a rule does not include wiring for unordered options.
There may be some exceptions I am sure but for example my coach did not come with an overhead map light on the passenger side. When I added one I found that the wires were not behind the panel and I had to add them.
Also I do not have CB option. I have removed the overhead cabinet liners and there is no CB antenna coax in the front cap area behind the cabinets .

Have you found a need for them? I have done a lot of cold weather driving and have never had a problem with the regular defroster. I also have the F53 chassis.

That is interesting, Clay. In my last 2 Winnebago motorhomes, the wiring was in place for def fans, sat dish, & CB radio that I installed. The wiring in this Horizon is already there for several other options that did not come with the coach. So it could be, given that this is an '02, that WGO has changed their sop to only what is ordered. I think I remember asking that question while in the wiring harness shop, on a factory tour a few years ago. Sometimes the unused wiring and connectors are coiled up, and wire-tied in a place that is not easy to find, but I am sure you were thorough.

So now, I am not so sure.

Thanks for the info. Guess I would have to look for myself.

I have not used the rig yet. We bought it in late September and didn't have time to get out. I have read that the fans work well for summer use also as the heat can build up in the window area. I was just keeping all my options open.

Thanks....
