Another "lesson learned" We pulled into a campground and as we were backing into our site, the air pressure dropped to below 65psi in both tanks Managed to get the MH on the pad and called Good Sam Road Service. Service technician arrived within a couple of hours and diagnosed the problem as a defective Pressure Relief Valve on the Haldex Air Dryer - valve was stuck in the open position, causing the sudden drop in air pressure. I was surprised as we had replaced this valve in May 2010. Technician did not have a replacement valve and did his best to clean the valve with brake cleaner. This was a temporary fix and replacing the valve was on my short list of things to do. Total cost for service call and cleaning the valve $239.00

Called the local Freightliner dealer and ordered two replacement valves ($33.00) -- when the parts department checked the valve in their computer, the old valve was rated at 175psi - Freightliner recommended replacing with a 200psi valve. Very easy to change the valve and I'll keep one in my spare parts box for the future. I'm not going to discuss the removal/replacement as this subject has been discussed in-depth on iRV2.com (Freightliner and Cummins forums). A spare valve could save a WIT member from being stranded along the side of the road and a road service bill.

Don't forget, in an emergency situation, you can bypass the air dryer and just rely on the "spitter" valve and the manual drain valves on the air tank(s) til you can have it repaired properly.

Thanks FleetMan -- thought about adding that as an 'emergency option' I understand that some of the big boys run in bypass mode all the time?
