Cannot answer that question, but are you going on the Alaska No. 1 or No. 2 tour?

We are signed up for the No. 2 tour.

We have travelled with the couple hosting the caravan on three previous WIT caravans. They are excellent hosts and have done Alaska caravans many times.

We will be leaving from PA and meeting some friends from FL and travelling to the rendezvous site. IL might be a good meeting point - maybe we can have our own little caravan on the way out to BC.

We might be interested in linking up on the way out. We were planning to spend two nights in the Sioux Falls area visiting relatives.

I noticed on another topic that you had recently stayed at Tin Cup in Mahomet. We live about two miles from there after moving from the LaCrosse area in WI. Enjoyed reading about your Great River Road adventure.

Was on the 2002 tour #4 and loved every inch of it. In order to get sat TV I plugged in the zip of the closest U.S. city and then fooled around until I got it. Only worked in southern B.C. and then I lost it. Had ATT cell phone at he time which didnot work until we got to Alaska, it was dead in Canda. Might be able to contact your present carrier and see if they have an add on. Why not throw it all away and just enjoy the trip without the burden of modern life.

Thanks for the information. I was hoping to be able to check email on occasion and pay some bills.

We did the WIT Alaska caravan in 2002, and 2007. If your satellite is manually pointed you can get some coverage in southern B.C. as previously stated.
As for checking the internet, there are several camgrounds along the route that have WiFi or dial-up. Tok AK. has a unique setup that uses an ethernet connector to a satellite dish on the roof of the laundry room. Only problem is that only one person can use it at a time. We stopped there twice and it wasn't a problem.
Hope this helps.

We will be travelling with our dog. Are there any side trips or excursions when we would need to leave the dog behind for a prolonged time ?

There are several long day trips included in the caravan. The longest is the tour of Denali Park that can go up to 12 hours. Off the top of my head there are at least 7 half to three quarter day tours. You will find that not everyone wants to take all of the tours. On our 07 caravan there was always someone who would be around and would do dog duty. Hopefully it works out that way for you. We wern't traveling with a pet so we didn't really pay that much attention.
Somehow things just seem to work out.

We do not travel with a pet either, but I can say this - on our recent River Road Caravan, and previous trips, when there was a long day away from the campground the CG hosts had a contact for someone who would provide dogwalking service for a fee. That seemed to be a satisfactory solution for the pet owners.
