I just tried to open my copy of the 2010 WIT Membership Directory and my Norton anti-virus stopped it from opening -- reporting it had a Trojan Horse virus. Has this happened to anyone else?
Who at Winnebago should I report this to? Didn't see a WIT specific email address on the Winnebago contact list.

I usually use or@winnebagoind.com when I contact Winnebago.

Judy,
I would just call the WIT office at 1-800-643-4892. They are always more than happy to speak with WIT members.

Norton's should have told you what the name of the trojan virus is. It is very possibly a piece of the software that is required to operation the WIT program and may not really be a virus, but a false indication based on heuristics. Find out what the name is, call Norton's and ask for advice.

I was asked to post this likely explaination for those of you who were concerned about a virus in this download.
We tested the CD prior to sending it out and found no viruses. (We use McAfee with the latest definitions.)
After your concern, we took the file in question – auto.exe – and uploaded to a site that analyzes files and tested it against 41 different virus checkers.
(Auto.exe is a file that auto-launches a CD on a Windows computer.)
Below is the site we used.
http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/bdfc8d5d0d3c0b56bd68986ba963fbfae5b0b4228ac5deb8c1 c8e94755650184-1266000192
As you will see, the results are varied. 12 of the virus checkers say it found a virus.
We have experienced this type of thing in the past, where an older file that is virus free is brought into today’s environment and now suddenly it may claim that it has a virus by some virus checkers.
I assume the code was written in such a way that it alerts virus checkers.
I still think that is what is happening with the auto.exe file – it is showing a false positive.
If you like, Denise will send you a CD without the auto.exe file and you will need to self launch.
By the way, this is the same file (auto.exe) we used in last year’s run of the 500 WIT CD’s and not one person had an issue.

When I was working at NASA, we had some very sophisticated software to detect viruses and other things. I used a program called 1st Page. I only used it occasionally and every time I started it, notices would be sent out to IT Security (which I was a part of) stating there was a virus. We traced it to a Java Script file that was needed by 1st Page to run. There was no virus.
Glenda, thanks for the post. It is better to be safe than to be sorry. Anytime a virus is suspected, it is a good thing to stop what you are doing and check it out. Having worked in IT Security, and like others who have worked in that field, we just have this built in desire to click on it to see what makes it tick. That is not a recommended procedure.
Thanks again.
