Angry WIT club price increase

We have been a WIT member for over 11 years and a couple of months ago I got the email that the WIT membership was going up from $30.00 to $40.00 ?? I realize cost do increase however what is with these people increasing their membership price over 30% in 1 year. I am in Canada so to that we add our exchange which is our problem not Winnebago's. We belong to the provincial/state Winnebago club and (annual membership $20.00) and as a prerequisite of belonging to the provincial/state club you must be a member of the WIT club. This made me stop and think just what has the WIT club done for it's members. In my opinion we get a magazine from them that primarily promotes their tours and has listings of provincial/state outings but they seem to have dropped their service tips and other owner helpful articles. Other RV clubs are dropping their prices and offering a lot more benefits to its members than WIT are doing. Am I just being a miserable senile senior or am I missing something that the WIT club is offering

I also question the value of my WIT club membership. I enjoy our local and state clubs so I reluctantly paid the national dues.
I wrote to Denise Yeager to express my displeasure with the increased dues. She responded citing the magazine and discounts on car and motorhome insurance as major benefits. She also noted that there are central area reps again. She did not say so, but I think the 33% price increase is to help defray the cost of fielding another team of area reps.
You may also wish to write to Denise to voice your opinion.

If I understand the posting correctly, dues have been the same for 11 years? If so, that's remarkable. No complaints here. There's not an organization I belong to that can say that, that I can recall.

Service Tips was back in the last magazine. WIT seems to have been going through some reorganization, I think the magazine is getting better. The GNR hasn't been as good lately as it was in the past. I hope the 2015 GNR will be better.

We dropped our FMCA membership years ago. It is a antiquated machine that needs revamping and the current president knows it - amongst others.

It is of little value to families especially those on the younger side with children.

I digress as this thread is about WIT, Charge more, offer less. Members have a right to question how there dues will be deployed.

I didn't know IRV2 had a minimum $ amount assigned to starting a thread?

I guess the perception is that the value of a WIT membership is satisfactory at $30, but starts to cross the line at, or approaching, the $40 price point. If there is little or no perceived value, I can certainly understand the reason that $40 would be objectionable. For those who are getting value from the membership, the $10 increase is prolly long overdue (10+ years = no increase?). For those who are not members at the $30 price point, the increase is a non-issue. \ken

I agree that FMCA needs to become more relevant to younger members.

However, since they have returned the "FMCAssit" program to be included for the dues, I think FMCA may be one of the best bargains out there. That "repatriation" insurance alone is worth the $45.00/year that FMCA costs. The magazine and tire discount programs are not too shabby either, IMO.

Some months ago they (FMCA ) solicited input from their "younger" membership; - as soon as we spoke up you wouldn't believe the resistance from the old cronies who detest change - especially if its the type of change that affects their title.
I will agree they are trying to diversify - they will need to in order to survive.

For whatever its worth though;

The FMCA tire program and most insurance programs are not offered to Canadian members - go figure?
We have found out that good old courtesy and kindness spark up the best friendship and interaction with other RV'ers of all ages when we travel.

That being said, If someone can convince me that participating in the WIT program will have benefits for a younger type family we might give it a try.....

We looked at the WIT program and could not see anything in the offerings that interested us at all.

I haven't been a member for the past several years for all of the above reasons.

I don't think it is a question of amount but rather what are you paying for.

I too am questioning what am I getting for any amount.

You might want to read the small print that comes with the FMCAssist program. It is definitely NOT a repatriation program!!

What it is is a program that may provide transportation to you if you become seriously ill in an area where adequate medical care is not available. If this is the case and the insurance company agrees, it will pay to transport you to the closest facility where such care is available. There is NOTHING in the policy which discusses taking you back home!

Furthermore, the additional benefits like arranging to bring your MH home are ONLY available if the transportation benefit has been approved.

This was the same benefit that FMCA previously offered and it was commonly referred to as a repatriation benefit. But that description was far from the truth.

If you want to see what a real repatriation benefit is, take a look at SkyMed. It truly will bring you back home but it also costs ~$500/yr for a couple. You can't get something for practically nothing.
