Four batteries in the tray. 2 left and 2 right. Which 2 are chassis and which for coach? Are they 6v or 12 v?

The '02 DSDP has 2 12 volt start batteries for the chassis and 4 - 6 volt batteries wired in series (2) and then paralel. 6 batteries in all. I believe that was standard for '02 DSDP

Hi dbradley,
The 12V batteries for automotive tasks like starting your engine will be wired in parallel (all + will be on the same cable and all - will be on the same cable).

The 6 volt batteries for your coach tasks will be wired in series (- to +) between the batteries.

This is from the factory. Being an 02, the batteries may have already been replaced. The replacement could or could not be following the factory configuration.

In my 2004 DSDP the 2 chassis batteries are 12 volt maintenance free ( which I just replaced). The 4 house batteries are 6 volt and you need to add distilled water to them monthly. If you don't have the 2,000 watt inverter, that's probably why you only have 2 house batteries.

Exactly,

The Trace 2,000 Watt Inverter was an option and came with 2 extra batteries. Standard feature was a 400 Watt Inverter with 2 6 volt batteries.

If you purchased the coach used, perhaps the previous owner had to replace the batteries and chose to only replace two rather than four. That happened to me.

The way to tell if they are 12v. or 6v.--count the number of cells. Figure two volts per cell. Also, there should be some sort of labeling on the battery.

Any garage should be happy to help you sort it out.

Good Luck and happy RVing!
