Seems like a silly question but I am being asked by a remote installer to tell them what type of roof I have, rubber or fibreglass. I am not sure. Does anyone know off hand what they did on 99 Dutch Stars?

I believe a rubber roof was standard with fiberglass optional.

You will need to go up and look.

I'm not sure if Brite-Tek was used then. If so, it has very good characterisics as compared to rubber. I don't think all fiberglass was even available on DS in '99.

Jim, It closely resembles rubber. You can verify by contacting Newmar. They should be able to confirm the material used on your specific rig.

Jim, the year will have a rubber roof if you run your hand over it it will leave a chalk film on your fingers if previous owner had it changed to the new roof "Brite Tex" will feel smooth and look slitely shinney. A fiberglass will be a harder finish and will flex near openings on roof and wrap over to sidewalls.
If you call Newmar give them your coach build number and they will tell you what it is.

I have a 1999 Dutch Star and have had no problems with the roof. What are the advantages/disadvantages of rubber vs fiberglass? Jerry

Welcome Jerry Peters to the Newmar forum & irv2.
All roofs no mater what material will have some problems as they age.
Maintenance will always be required to prevent possible leaks some roofs as Newmars I have never had a problem on three coach's but I do check roof and clean during spring check.
Here is a thread on rubber roof leak control and maintenance.
Still checking on fiberglass roofs.
Not saying this could happen to Newmar fiberglass roofs but this thread will explain.
More on Fiberglass & more on Fiberglass.
As you can see maintenance is needed for both types is there an advantage with fiberglass someone should answer that has one.
They both need cleaning to look good glass will cost more we'll just have to see.
Well I found a thread on the question allot of answers but still ??????

Newmar did not use Brite Tek until mid-2000 models. Your 99 can have either a rubber roof or fiberglass. If it has fiberglass it a only in the center of the roof and will not wrap down to the sides.
