Well, we are seriously looking at a 2004 Mountain Aire DP on a dealers lot. I surely hope there are some owners out there that can advise at to any problems with that year production. Also any particular points to look at during inspection and test drive?

Thanks

You need to decide if you prefer Spartan MM
or Freightliner XC chassis. Both have IFS
and ISL 400, but the Spartan did not have a
two-stage retarder, if I recall correctly,
just a single stage.

2004 was the first year for the one-piece
fiberglass roof and power slide locks, new
front and rear caps and dash vs. '03, I think.

If it has Hydronic Heat, make sure to test
thoroughly for leaks, proper operation, any
diesel smell within the house.

Make sure the backup camera is working properly,
they were troublesome.

Check paint quality carefully, some of the paint
work, especially the lower body dark colors wasn't Newmar's finest.

Make sure you turn the ceiling rope lights
on to see if any bulbs are out, that can be
a time consuming repair.

I think '04 Mountain Aire's were good coaches
and I'm a fan of 295 size tires. Either chassis
rides and drives well, IMO.

Thanks a lot!. The link provided some good info and I have made a note of what to look for.

The unit is reportedly on the Spartan chassis, no idea if it has a fiberglass roof (is it similar to the full, wrap over one like Winnebago?), does not have Hydronic Heat, have the camera on the list to look at, the paint appears to be a light color, rope lights are on the list, as are to check the tire size.

They have not gotten back to me yet on price so depending on if it is affordable, then I will go take a serious look see. It is too far to drive (800+ round trip) if they are too high.

Thanks for the info and if there is any more please send to to me!
