2006 Newmar Dutch Star - M&G Toad Brake

I'm new. We'll be full timers 8 months from now. Right now I'm researching hooking up my toad. FWIW I'm going with the Falcon-2 and I'm planning on M&G for the toad brake system.

One question for this group, hopefully one of you is using M&G.

My 2006 Newmar Dutch Star has a pneumatic brake connector on the back. This is a Spartan Chassis. I don't currently have access to the coach but I'm pretty sure it's a standard "glad hands" connector like you see on tractor-trailers. Is that correct? Can I use that connector with the M&G system (or is it connected to the wrong thing)? If so, how? It seems like just a special air line. Instead of 1/4" to 1/4" it would be "glad hands" to 1/4".

I'm sizing the installation to get the complete price of the various solutions.

Thank you for any help.

The connection on the MH is not a "glad hand" like on semi's. They usually put on a quick connector system like you have on a home air compressor. You could convert it to glad hands if you wanted too but the air lines used for the M&G and other air operated braking systems only use 1/4" lines.

If I were you, I would call M&G to get all of your questions answered. They are a small operation and I'm sure they will be happy to work with you to explain the system. I also have a Spartan, but no rear air connection. They installed the system in a couple of hours.

Same as home compressor. Home Depot or tractor supply has the parts etc. no glad hand connector. I hooked up and installed all facuets of the M&G system on my Rv and Jeep Liberty.

Needed to replace a line once on ours I could not find a match at the local big box stores. Called Roadmaster and they told me that they use aircraft pneumatic fittings.

Thank you all very much.

So, the MH has a standard 1/4" Quick Disconnect, which will work, unaltered with the M&G system. No MH modifications necessary. Worse case, I may have to change a connector, but probably not since my MH is stock.

I am in contact with M&G. He wanted a picture of the back of the MH, which I don't currently have.

Thanks again and I hope you have a great day.

Greg the connection you see is 'usually' a connection for a tow truck to connect into for keeping the brake system tanks full while towing since the engine isn't supplying any air pressure (nor running) while under tow.

Spartan makes a kit to be used with the M&G for modulating the brakes from the coach side. SMI Airforce One system supplies their own version of the Spartan system.

Just guessing that if you hook up the &G to that connection, start the engine, then the brakes are going to be applied to the tow vehicle continuously unless there is a one way check valve in the air line up to the connection point.
