Anyone using a 2007 Jeep Unlimited (4 door wrangler) as a dinghy? I understand you can do it, but my googling around mentions an issue as it pertains to steering wheel locking and ignition.
Any help appreciated.

Hi Shannon! We are currently towing a 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 4 Door. I would like to know what you found out. Also I will be glad to answer all questions. Paul

Jetsmania,
Do you leave the ignition in position one? Are you having to pull a fuse? What about leaving a key in the ignition? Which tow bar and plate are you using? Electical to the jeep? Is your jeep and automatic or manual?

I have a 2000 Wrangler that I think would be similiar if not exactly the same as the '07 unlimited. The key has a "chip" in it as a security measure. If you don't use the factory key, the vehicle won't start. I had a key made at a hardware store that doesn't have the chip. I leave this in the ignition turned to one notch to the right to unlock the steering wheel. The reason I use this key is so if someone should try and steal the Jeep, the key w/o the chip won't start the vehicle. I don't pull any fuses and have not had any problems. As far as the transfer case / transmission goes, I just put the transmission in fifth gear (I have a stick) and the transfer case in neutral. I'm useng the Roadmaster Sterling aluminum towbar and the Brakemaster proportional braking system. All works very well. I would ask the dealer to let you review the owners manual regarding how to set it up for towing. My owners manual has very explicit instructions on what to do. That would probably answer all your questions.

We have a 2007 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon.
It does great behind our 2007 DSDP. Not only does it tow very nicely it is simple to put the tranfer case in neutral and transmission in park (or standard in gear). In order for the steering wheel to remain unlocked, you must leave the key in the ignition and it seems like the accessories (radio, etc.) stay energized. I just make sure to turn everyting off.
Good luck!

Locking steering is becoming a thing of the past. GM has eliminated it on most vehicles now for several years. I guess it had too many problems.

Hi! The key is left in the ignition turned to the first position. We do not have to pull a fuse, the milage does not accumulate. We are using the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain, and the Roadmaster Base plate. We have aux lights that were inserted inot the light assemblies, and a line from the coach to the toad to keep the battery charged. We are using the US Gear Brake system. The Jeep is an Auto. Sorry about the delay in answering. Paul

We have an 2006 Jeep Liberty Diesel that we used to tow for 1 month. It's a great car, lots of pep and set up to tow. I has less that 4K miles, both carpet and mud floor mats and a Jeep bra.
We've decided not to tow a car and would make you a GREAT deal if you are interested. You can email me at rbloom0105@bellsouth.net or call at 561-670-8676 to discuss if interested.
Thanks
Raphael

Was looking at one yesterday, a very nice ride. Who knows maybe when the GC bites the dust one will be in our future. Saw somewhere that the M&G brake cylinder is a tough install.
