My take on this coach is that yes, they will sell some of them, but this coach gets away from the tried and true woodworking craftsmanship that Newmar is famous for.
If it's any consolation, the KADP hasn't sold yet.

Scott, I LOVE NEWMAR....no question there.

What concerns me is the apparent "departure from the norm" that this coach exhibits.

Believe me,I SINCERELY HOPE the management team has success with this coach as I'd hate to see them fail.

All I can say is that when I bought my LADB I "knew" the new coach was in the works and spent many sleepless nights in the LADB wondering if the "new K3" would make me wish I'd waited...

At least I have that answer...

I went to look at the KA cabinets this morning, but it has been sold, and is closed.

However, the wood samples were in a basement slide out, and the cabinets are all wood, with no laminates, but they have a high gloss finish which is much shinier than previous finishes.

Fair enough Dirk....

I'll accept your "high gloss" comment and leave it at that...

Wondering what Kyle or John said when you asked them about ordering with EXDP or LADB cabinets...

The history is I know of several dealers that feel the same way about the cabinets as I do and I was wondering whether hearing the same question from a "customer" would stir some thoughts from them...

Even as of late in the year they were "tweaking" the Essex,so why not go ahead and start early with the KADP?

I decided not to ask.

However grand marketing plans sometimes crash and burn from clouded vision. Like the New Aire and Northern Star.

Time will tell.

Well, as I had feared they have downgraded the Grand Star from what the Mountain Aire was. Just looking at the pictures (by the way, thanks Dirk), the woodwork looks like cheap vinyl covered pine. The window treatments are very basic looking and they've eliminated the window sill under the windows. I also notice they have stopped painting the forward and rearward facing ends of the slides. This was kind of a Newmar tradition that set them apart from other coaches. As far as power plants go, at least the Fred is an option with the standard being the W-24. I'll be gracious and say that I hope Newmar is successful with this supposed "high end" Mountain Aire replacement. It just isn't making it for me. Say, I wonder if they would sell me a basic shell that I could take to a quality woodworking shop to get quality cabinets. I'm also sure I'd be able to find someone that could do a complete paint job in Elkhart for me.

Jack, I'm not meaning to be a knothead, but I would imagine Newmar's not striping the inside of the slides and their providing a lower quality of cabinet is what they'll say is "model separation" tactics...

Can ya say.....Dutch Star?

The Grand Star looks like the entry level diesel it is, with the FRED.

Dirk

I know what you're saying, I'm just disappointed. My ideal coach would be a 38 - 39 foot high end Newmar gasser. Either UFO or W24 or W25.5. There isn't any need (or in my case) desire to have a diesel. Yes, I know it would list for around $200 K, but I would be willing to pay it, if they would produce it. Right now it would appear that Tiffin is better meeting my needs. At least I'm not going to trade for another year or so. I'm hopeful Newmar will reestablish a high end gasser.

I am curious why the Grand Star has all the louvers and grill work on the back end. Is there a UFO in the future they're not telling us about?

There are no gassers here, so I don't know what that lineup is going to look like.

As far as louvers go, who knows what they have in mind.

Who knows, maybe better woodwork, higher quality painting, furniture etc will be optional on the Grand Star gassers. I've read that depending on length, the Ford and Workhorse are available and that the Fred is an option on the 37 footer. Time will tell.

Thanks again Dirk for all your hard work and taking / posting the pictures for us. It's great to get a feeling for what's going on at Newmar.

I do have to say I agree with most posters on the King Air. It sounds like a mattress and the woodwork looks very much like plastic. It cheapens the Newmar name. Thankfuly, I'm not in the market for a coach in either that length or price.

Jack

Y'all should have been here.

We all sang "Elvira" with the Oak Ridge Boys.

They played Branson last night and drove 900 miles to get here.

Great show.
