HI,

I have a 2009 Grand star that I bought last year from Independance RV in Winter Garden Fl. It has been in the shop more than out. I will list items that have had to be fixed and some that Newmar still don't know how to correct. I have had it in 2 and 3 times for the same problems and it seems to be that Newmar blames Workhorse and Workhorse blames Newmar.

Running lights
Refrigerater
Jacks
Hotwater (elec)
Dino sheild
Back window
Wall paper
Gear box
Entry door
Back TV
Stress fracture
Headlights
Hood release latch
Readings for tanks

I recently met a couple that have an 08 Grand Star and it seems they had some of the same problems but their dealer in Lexington SC seems to be able to fix on the first attempt and they also coordinate with Workhorse for the customer where we have to run it back and forth from Brooksville Fl and Winter Garden to be told that it is not there problem. So now you have the problems that I have encountered. Good Luck. I had a Newmar Country Star that was great!!

Ted

Don`t see much on your list that would be a Workhorse issue.
Just traded my dsca on workhorse chassis for a used 5th wheel there and hadn`t heard of service being an issue there.

Welcome Ted to the Newmar forum & irv2.
Your coach on the W-24 was a upgraded from W-22 with a much improved braking system and Allison trans. Have not been many complaints in the Workhorse forum.
Workhorse Service Reviews
As for the Dealer Independence they have had good reviews also.
Just what has been going on when you had the PDI list were all the problem in writing and was the followups within the warranty period.
Here is a thread that may help you realize your not along when things are sometimes not right.

Hi TEDRODSTOCK,
The only item I can comment on is the jacks. They have been a problem with Grand Stars from day 1. Newmar does know about the problem and how to fix it (not cheap). If your jack problem is the same it has to do with repositioning where the control board is located. The the original position allowed moisture to enter the control board. The symptom is the jack control panel goes crazy (technical term) and the jacks will not respond to driver commands.

Newmar would not work on the running lights and said that it was a Workhorse problem. Took it to Workhorse and they could not get the electrical schametic and told us to take it back to Newmar dealer. Returned to dealer and was told that Workhorse must of messed with the wires, but fixed it and charged labor since it was a Workhorse problem. This was listed before warrenty had expired and is documented. Was still charged for the labor but the labor was reduced after talking to Mgr of dealer. Still have wires that are loose and can cause my dash board swithces to quite working. That is still not fixed since no one seems to know if it is a Newmar problem or Workhorse. I also had a steering wheel fluid leak that Workhorse was responsible for but it was fixed by them.

Hi,

I got ready to go on a trip and had everything ready to go and when I hit retract nothing happened but an error report. Then thru Independance referred to Newmar then referred to Workhorse then to Allison. The tow truck driver got it up via instructions thru Workhorse by cell phone. Took it to the dealer and they kept it all day to tell us that the part was the wrong one. Would have had to rent a car to get back to Tampa from Winter Garden. After reaching my limit the dealer decided to take one off a unit there to fix mine so I could leave until the part did arrive. I do like the technical terms. I have some that just state a mess of wires and that is just how it is.
