Looked at a new DS and a KS and they both had swirl marks all over the finish. Salesman told us Newmar doesn't do as good a job anymore on "low end" coaches & if you want a good paint job you need to spend hundreds of thousands more for a MADP, Essex or King. Huh?

Has Newmar cheapened their painting on their "cheap" products??

Saw low end and the high end Newmars at Tampa show and they all looked good to me. Maybe someone got a little heavy handed with buffer when shining up the coach's you were looking at.

Truthfully the price of the unit should not have anything to do with a quality paint job, I have a 95,000.00 unit with a very nice paint job if I do say so myself.

The issue is very simple and confirms my earlier post in Dutch star 4333.
I am sure Newmar is struggling to stay out of the red and trying to reduce the many hours of labor it takes to wet sand, buff and finish a coach to make it presentable based on the price point. It is not a question of quality but one of ascetics, and why should a $250,000 coach look as good as a $500,000 coach. Also, consider the dealer's position why does he talk down Newmar when he can assign 2 men 8 hours each and eliminate the swirls and just maybe that what Newmar has in mind, involve the dealer in the prep charge he is charging you.
My advise is pay the factory and take delivery at Newmar, you will be glad you did.

Typically, after painting the clear top coat, it is wet sanded with 1220-1500grit and compounded to make it a really slick paint job. The compounding always leaves swirl marks which have to be buffed out with another product, a swirl remover using a high speed buffer.
An orbital buffer and a cleaner wax will remove most swirl marks and you don't have to be a pro to use it.
Good luck,
JVR

The problem is usually caused by washing with a too-stiff bristle brush when there's road grime on it. Another culprit can be improper buffing. We've been guilty of both in years past. It's rarely strictly a Newmar problem, even though Newmar may authorize a fix at times. Newmar has some of the best paint jobs in the business, but all manufacturers have trouble with swirls. Bad batches of paint or fiberglass can also pop up as it did with Newmar a few years ago.

As an aside, it's much harder to get the swirls in the paint on the MADP, Essex and King Aire because of the extra clearcoat applied so you feel no paint lines. Lee Litchfield

As an aside to your aside, Lee, it is good to see you back on the forum after your Honduras/medical trip(s). Stay well and stay involved.

I have a 05 KS and every day some one will ask how old is your rig and when I say it's an 05 they are shocked because of the paint job looks so good. We only use baby shampoo to wash it and you could shave with the reflection.
Good job NEWMAR

Hi all,
The paint on Newmar coaches is well above the quality of competing brands. Attend the Tampa super show and you can compare the different brands. The coach may or may not have had the swirl marks when it left to factory. I know that dealers inspect a factory arrival coach before they accept delivery. In talking with several Newmar dealers about paint, I doubt the coach would have been accepted with swirl marks in the paint. Also, the dealers hold Newmar to a higher standard of paint compared to other brands they may carry. If accepted, the dealer would, most likely, have worked out a credit from Newmar to pay for eliminating the swirl marks.

I have the same situation as read & learn. People have a hard time believing my coach is an 05 with 59K miles and has been cross country twice.

Swirls marks are NOT related to low/high model NOR manufacturer. Have seen swirls in new Prevosts and all coaches on down. They are not usually visable except in bright sunlight, so make sure before taking delivery-no matter which coach you decide on.
