2011 MADP Freightliner Chassis vs 2010 MADP Spartan k2 Chassis

Looking at a 2011 MADP with a Freightliner Chassis & a 425hp. How does this compare to the 2010 MADP with a Spartan K2 Chassis with a 450hp? What are differences and difference in power and ride? Thanks for the help JP

Hi Mr JP,

The 425 hp and the 450 hp are the same motor and put out essentially the same amount of torque so the differences in (power) performance would be more a factor of any gross weight differences between the 2 model years.

Good luck with your shopping!!

With the Freightliner chassis you will get COMFORT STEERING, that makes a big difference!

Comfort steer is on both, it's a Newmar item (for now).

Curious to hear what people say, myself.

had a 2008 DS with K2 chassis and now have 2011 DS with Freightliner chassis and I really can tell any difference in ride or power.

From 07 to I think 09 Newmar Mountain Aires were on Spartan K-2 450 ISM 11 liter 1550 lbs torque which is much different then the newer ISL 9 liter 1250 lbs torque. All had comfort drive but the 2010 were on FL chassis and had the ISL engine.

I have a 2007 Mountainaire K2 Spartan 450 ISM 45 foot tag. It has the comfort drive. I pull a full size chevrolet 4 door silverado and have never had a lack of power going over mountainains, passing etc. I don't think the Dutchstar ever used the K2, I think that was the mountain master spartan chassis. You will not be disappointed with a K2. That being said I'm sure the Freightliner would be a good choice as well. I don't think Newmar would use it if it was'nt.

I maybe wrong but I think the 08 Dutchstar only came with the mountain master chassis which is why Terry43 said the Freightliner rode better and had more power. I have had the Mountain Master and the K2 . The K2 rides and handles much better and has lots more power.

The DSDP was never on a K2, only the MM.

You are correct on the DS and Mountain Master; I thought I had the K2 sorry for the misinformation......

Is there more storage space on K2 vs Mountain Master? I think yes, slightly...

The K2 chassis with the ISM engine is a much more expensive and capable chassis then the 2011 Freightliner XCR chassis, which is equivalent of the Spartan Mountain Master GT. The Essex was built on the same K2 chassis, but with an ISX engine. It has heavier frame rails and an overall stiffer chassis than the FL XCR and has higher GVV and GCV capacity.

The k2 has higher doors on the basement passenger side than the mountain master or freightliner. I think the drivers side basement is the same. Tha 2006 mountainaire had the mountain master and the 2007 moved up to the K2.

Thanks for the reply's. That is great information. I have found that the 2011 MADP I am looking at is the Freightliner 450hp Chassis that is what the MSRP sheet says. How pleased are others with this set-up.
Thanks again for the help.
JP
