I looked at two 2011 MADPs at the Tampa show yesterday.
There is a major problem with the side walls. They have an obvious visible orange peel texture that is much worse than a paint orange peel.
The side walls don't look like CTEK, as they are not similar to the Essex and King Aire's on display.
At $429K, Newmar should be embarrassed.

Downsizing in both size and chassis (K2 to MMGT and then to Freightliner?), urea tank soon to come, CTEK sidewalls absent, and inferior paint AT ONE OF THE LARGEST RV SHOWS IN THE COUNTRY!
Plus, not much of a price drop.
Newmar may be making a series of mistakes that may be playing into the hands of their main competitor

I have seen the 011 Mtnaire, not only is it a lighter chassis, but they have gone to the L cummins 425 hp in lieu of the m series 450hp ,which is about 20,000 less money. i'll keep my 07 mtnaire 4521.

I think that this coach is going to be a Big Bust for Newmar. Who would buy one for that kind of money when the competition has more to offer for less......
I've owned three Newmar coaches and my last one was a total pig! Now that they are going to be FL exclusive chassis I'll never buy another one.

icejim,
Do you think that the 2011 madp will de-grade the value of your coach?

I think Lee was eluding to the fact that 07 thru 10 MADP on K2's will hold there value better because of the down grade to MM and now Freightliner, at least that's what I hope for. Newmar will force anyone wanting to get a new coach that has a 07 and up to get an Essex or else down grade substancialy.
Thanks, Daryl

They are trying to use the NAME and reputation of the Mountain Aire and Dutch Star both and build something cheaper == not deserving of their history. I hope they are able to stay in business and if this helps them - so be it....but I won't be buying one. If you put an older used MADP and the NEW 2011 MADP side by side and I could have either --- I would probably take the USED MADP unit....same with the DSDP....You can take a Kountry Star and put the Mountain Aire or Dutch Star name on it but it does not make it one.

I disagree. I think they are hurting owers of previous model years....I think a typical uneducated buyer will look and think --- why pay XXX for a 2008 when I can buy a brand new 2011 for YYY ----- and if you think the salesman is going to educate the buyer - wrong.

Where is that salesman that is going to educate the buyer? Most are worried about what it will take to get the sale.
I've done a lot of looking and listening this year at the Tampa show and it's amazing some of the BS that is being said to get peoples interest.
Best one I heard was is "I've been selling RV's about a month now"
No, it wasn't at the Newmar area!

Believe they need some serious marketing help! They go in too many directions each year and seem to get deeper into losing sales.
Although they came out with the Mid-Engine(probably the best handling design ever) during rough times they had no idea how to market it.

Just a little info for u guys. The 2011 MA has only ctek 200 fiberglas sheeting, no wood on the inside of the fiberglas wall sheet, slick, smooth fiberglas on the outside, a little rougher fiberglas on the inside which will allow it to be glued to the frame. As far as orange peel is concerned, it could have been several places where the personel did not buff out properly. They now use BASF paint. Outside of that the quality is the same. If you want to buy the King Aire, Essex or the MA and not pay the price for good chassis, then you can buy the cheaper Freightliner chassis or the cheaper Cat engine. If u got the $$$ you can buy what you want. Newmar is making 5 coaches a week and they have orders for the next 18 weeks. So the line now runs King Aire, Essex, MA,
Dutch Aire, Dutch Star etc. Check it out.

Here is some more Newmar info. Paint checking started in '04 to '06 and some of '07 that was manufactured in the last part of '06. (Not all units had this problem, just some.) Sherwin Williams paint was used and the fiberglas side sheeting used was thin fiberglas sprayed on thin wood. These fiberglas sheets were made by Noble Glass of Goshen, In., then they went bankrupt and were bought out by a respectable company and they are the suppliers now which ctek 100 was used for a while and now it exclusive ctek 200. They are not using Sherwin Williams, it is all BASF paint. Now this problem occured on Essex, MA, DS everything, it didn't make any difference. The problem had been corrected and the company worked on a lot of coaches trying to take care of their problem. At least they covered their butt and they're still in business and they didn't go bankrupt. Today they are making a quality coach (still mfg. daily) like they thought they were doing all along and they realized the sub-contractor was goofing up the product but a lot of units have been taken care of under warranty right at the Newmar factory at their expense.
