Actually, I was aware of the past Owner rebate because it also happened when we bought our Ventana. We had owned a 2004 Dutch Star and when we bought the 2011 Ventana, even though we had already sold the Dutch Star by that time, we nonetheless qualified for the rebate money on the Ventana and it helped us make our deal. So I was ready for this question this time around and it made a difference in our decision in helping us get a really nice deal on the new Dutch Star.
I did always understand the rebate to be Newmar money to the dealer. And we had the same experience discussed above in this thread -- some dealers mentioned it and some did not (this, too, helped us decide who we wanted to deal with in placing our order and who we did not).
By the way, our salesman told us that Newmar has no plan to continue the rebate past 10/31/12, in part because sales since Hershey have been so strong for Newmar -- strong enough in fact that they are now finishing one more coach daily during production weeks than they had been for several months previously. What is good for Newmar in terms of its overall financial health is, in my thinking, good for all of us who buy their products. They win, we win.
As to factory PDI, we learned firsthand about the terrific and personal service at Newmar and haven't missed the message we got out of that. We had warranty work done at Newmar that was not finished by the Ventana dealer when we picked up our coach in Florida -- despite laying over two extra days to make sure it was all done before we left (it wasn't). When we went to Nappanee, the Newmar folks literally went way beyond the call of duty to satisfy us and answer all of our questions -- and they did it with the kind of friendliness and courtesy that we never, ever got from the dealer.
We could not have been happier with our factory experience and we decided right then that whenever we made the move to buy a new coach, we would definitely want to spent the extra money to get our PDI at the factory.
So when we decided to buy the '13 Dutch Star, there was no question that one of our most important options would be factory delivery PDI and delivery. In my mind this is just money very well spent.
Our delivery can't come too soon.
