I know your just joking but I weighed the day before we dropped it off and Newmar weighed it for us after the mod. The mod was insignificant I'm guessing the jack knife sofa probably weighed similar to the new cabinet.

The Mod looks great.
This may be a naive question but it's an electric fireplace ,correct.
We recently purchased a new 2015 DS 4369 and that jackknife couch seems like a waste.
Has anyone replaced it with something other than a fireplace.
Wondering what others options there may be?

It is an electric FP. When I went back to Newmar for ideas I was thinking just a cabinet they suggested the FP. We are crazy about it. It has hi/lo settings and hi is probably about 1500 watts and puts out great heat. I always carried portable heaters in other RV's to boost heat in cold months. The last weekend we camped in Nappanee early December it was quite cold. The FP with floor heat was all we needed. Of course this DS is better insulated than our other motor homes also.

We had ours built with a cabinet there instead of a couch. A few others have done this as well.

PDR John,
You have any pics of the cabinets?

Don't think you would be happy just removing the couch. The slide mechanism won't leave you with a flat floor back to the televator. There is a 5" ledge under the sofa that will remain after you remove it. You can see it if you open the jack knife half way. The new cabinet is actually on top of the ledge. If Newmar used in wall slide mechanisms you would have a flat floor but most of us would not want that.

One of the issues with removing the jackknife couch would be giving a place for 1 of our grandkids to sleep on the occasion we take them with us.
I've been looking at some mods on the site and had a thought.
Could I have some sort of murphy bed put in where the proposed cabinet or fireplace would go, could be a blow up mattress of some sort and could run front to back vs a traditional Murphy bed pulls down.
Or simply leave a good size space for a blow up mattress
We are going to Tampa RV show and I'm sure I'll get some ideas there.
That couch under televstor just doesn't make much sense for us.

4366 mod

The mod is beautiful and makes a lot of sense for us as we are going with the two recliner option. Is this a special item ordered through Michelle at purchase or is it an after market mod through the service center?

My craftsmanship is not nearly on a par with those, but at least it's serviceable. This is a store-bought cabinet modified to allow me to put in some shelves and storage space. The counter top is cut out to fit with the TV behind, next to the wall. You can see the little rectangular hole in the counter top. That is the top of the lift mechanism. I had planned to build a little decorative box to make that a little neater, but as I said about craftsmanship..............................

Anyway, I don't have a picture of the TV itself, but it's a Sanyo 46" LED. The lift if from Mor-Ryde. These pictures do not really show the cut-out for the TV, but the cut out portion rests on top of the TV and rides up with the lift. If anyone has an interest, I can take a couple of shots of the completed project. These were last year's jobs and we got on the road soon after.

Ours was done by Newmar on a three month old coach. I would think the best way would be to let them build it with this mod in the first place it would have to be cheaper. This "mod" is actually common Newmar or your dealer can easily provide you with a quote.

As I posted before we had this mod done at the factory during the build, after receiving the coach I removed the fireplace and installed additional recepticals in the cabinets on either side from the recepticals located in the televator area. I also installed HDMI and USB outlets in the cabinets as well, connecting to the tv.

Also ordering additional shelves would be a good idea, since they only gave me one on each side.
