2015 Dutch Star option question..
Power Incline Retracting bed base.
Can anybody provide clarification as to what this option does. Winnebago introduced this in some models so that you didn't have to climb over the bed to get to the back (when the slides are closed). I am only interested in this option if it accomplishes that.
The second reason they may have this option is to create a more comfortable bed position for watching TV or reading but it does not give you any extra room for walking through to the back when the slides are closed.
Any clarification or 1st hand experience would be greatly appreciated. Lastly, is it true that if you get this option you cannot get the 2 side windows next to bed? I heard the valances get in the way of the mattress moving up the wall. Anybody heard of this?
Thank you.

I believe if I remember correctly it is an option where bed folds up and revels a couch.

You are referring to a different option. It is option 5K180 on Dutch Star- power flip up sofa in bed base with sleep number premier air mattress. $5,018. DW and I are still undecided on this one. It is not the most comfortable sofa although they do have power reclining foot rests for 2015. The only use we saw for it was that if you close the slides while the bed is in the sofa configuration, it does make it easier to get around to the back of the coach. A slight bit easier than crawling over bed. There's a tiny bit of space where the foot of the bed would come up to the bedroom drawers. Of course, the intended use is for an additional place to watch TV. Our children stated that they would rather lie on the bed and watch TV.

I realize you are asking about a Newmar option that I'm not familiar with, but I thought I would address your statement, quoted above.
As an owner of a WBGO product with the retractable bed, I can tell you that you MUST fully retract the bed before the slide out will even begin moving to come in, AND when the opposing slides are both "in" for travel, you still MUST crawl over the bed to reach the rear bath because the fully retracted bed is touching the wardrobes and drawers opposite the bed.
I hope the Newmar option is "better". Happy shopping!

We looked at the 2014 Dutch Star yesterday that had the retractable bed. It is an expensive option that I am not sure would be worth it. If you like to sit on a somewhat hard sofa to watch TV or you want to sit doing some reading in the back bedroom then maybe you would get some use out of it. I (like the kids) would rather be in the bed watching TV or reading. I dont know how much room you have to get around in the bedroom with bed up since we put it down when we took the test ride. I have a question for you (which I just started a thread on ) did you notice the cab. drawer next to the sink that has the piece of counter top in it? That drawer is where we would put the silverware so you would have to take this piece out but we are not sure what purpose it serves----solid counter top cutting board ?? cover for induction range?? Any idea?

The cutting board is not removable it slides in and locks to a Velcro stop and is same material as the counter.
If you have a double sink they may have to smaller piece in this draw and it should be removed and stored someplace else.

We looked at a Newmar with this option in Tampa. I thought the couch was very uncomfortable. The concept is unique, but I just did not like the feel of the couch itself and it seemed to have somewhat of a claustrophobic feel while sitting on the couch.

I believe you are referring to the bed reclining so the head rest part elevates.
I ordered this and there are two advantages to this bed.
1. When in the incline position you can watch TV or read without a bunch of pillows.
2. when in the back rest is raised you gain walking space giving you more entrance space to the bathroom and walk space.

We were considering this option until we were told it eliminates the bedroom slide windows because there isn't enough clearance for the bed to elevate with the valances in the way.

Do you loose the under the bed storage if this option is taken? The mechanics of it has to be under the bed.

I called Newmar you don't loose the windows or storage under the bed when choosing 5K320 Power incline on bed.
