2015 Essex Large Slide sticking on retraction

We are complete Newbies to the forum, RVing and Newmar!! Been in the coach full-time for just two weeks. Been a massive learning curve and lots of challenges so far. Below is our current major unsolved problem. Did try to search this forum, but could not find any similar issues (probably a newbie search issue!).

So, we were to vacate our RV site today. Got our kitchen and bedroom slides in. Then tried the large driver side living room to bedroom slide. It start to come in as usually (have done it 4-5 time previously) and then the front (by driver seat) stopped but the back continued. Obviously stopped. Put the slide back out fully again. Repeated the process with the same issue a few more times. Called the Newmar dealer, who passed me to Newmar, who passed me to KIB (slide controller manufacturer) who does not answer his phone and who's mailbox is full!

Called four local mobile tech services, three were out of the area and could not get back for several days if ever. Fourth never heard from.

Found a couple of Americas Coach tech in the park at their rally. They tried (plus marks for them over Newmar) but could not find the issue.

What I know so far. Checked the eight slide roller and hangers - no obvious visible issues there.

The slide in on a dual electric motor system, with four of those medieval looking sprockets , and used the KIB [sp.] controller.

The rear motor appears to work correctly - in and out.

The front motor appear to go in about 5-6" and then stop (the rear would continue in automated mode). Pushing on the front of the slide would not move it. So the front motor is working in and out for at least 6" and can't see anything binding or broken.

Any collective wisdom and experience out there?

Not a great start to our Newmar RVing life!!

Hoping that you have already checked but need to ask anyway. Did you check to see if drivers seat or for any other obstacles which could be causing an obstruction?

At one time, we forgot to move our drivers seat forward enough to clear the slide movement but caught it as soon as we saw the slide make contact with the back of the drivers seat.

Try turning the salesman switch off at the door. The one with the red light. Then turn it back on. Sometimes that will reset the controller. Also ensure you are plugged into power or running generator.

Some other details I forgot.

No obstacles in slide path - driver seat, etc.

Jacks retracted, engine running, air up.

Hooked to power. Both power lines at 120+V and minimal other loads (no AC running or any major appliances).

What's a "salesman switch"?

By the way, I figured out how to turn the controller on/off and adjust each motor independently.

I now believe that there is something binding at or near the ramp at the front.

The dealer tech support is contacting Newmar Engineering. Hope to get some information today. Hopefully they can't fob him off like they did me!!

Got two extra days at the park, but have to be out tomorrow.

Fourth mobile services finally called back, could not come until next week! 0 for 4.

Still did not get a response from the controller manufacturer, but figured it out on my own.

The salesman switch is the 12v on off power to your coach. Mine is located at the door on the passenger arm rest and has a red light illuminated showing it is on. Had a nice couple at last campground could not extend kitchen slide. I turned off their switch and after a few seconds turned it back on and the slide came out. It reset the controller.

Thanks for the explanation- makes sense to me now.

I don't have on of those. Just the the big chassis switch I the back bay and a battery disconnect switch in the panel over the steering wheel. I'll have to relabel it 😁

I did get the issue resolved today. Will relay all the glory detail when I can get to a real keyboard. Travel day tomorrow.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Once again, a seasoned RVer and a bunch of RV park hands helped me. So after two days of hard effort, I'm beat. These RVING lessons come hard, but hopefully not too often.

I think you need to resyncronize your slide motors. If one motor moves while the other does not, that indicates they are out of sync.

This is also known as the soft limit reset. You will have to do this anytime you have a low voltage issue on your 12v system.

Here are the instructions: http://www.irv2.com/forums/attachmen...8&d=1372008424
