2016 F53 tranny upgrade date??

Hi everyone we are looking at getting a 2016 Newmar Canyon 3914. We have taken many out for test drives over the pass few months but they were all 2015 models. However, just yesterday I took out the new 2016 model and it just rode much better. I did count 6 gears I think or is the tq converter lockup felt when locking up? (I could have sown there were 6 shifts though....counted 3x) The chassis was made in 7/2015.
Does anyone know if this is a new 6 speed trans in the unit buy the date of manufacturer? It did not down shift like the others I drove.....Much much less down shifting even on lite to med upgrades.
Thanks for any help and I know I not giving much to go on but maybe someone can put my mind at ease because we did put a down payment on this one.
Thanks!

Hi lionofjuda,
The 2016 F-Series Chassis does have a 6 speed transmission. Try to make sure the test drive is on a flat road. Preferably at interstate highway speeds. The tow/haul mode should be disengaged. This would be a fair test of the tranny shifting.

Thanks Gary!!
I did just as you said and I did count 6 shifts. I was asking because We ran into a 2016 that still had the old 5 speed in it. (At least thats what they told us) Do you know anything about that? And because of that I'm 2ed guessing myself.
Thanks!!

Hi lionofjuda,
I do not know of a 5 speed tranny in a 2016 Canyon Star. It could have been so, but I am not aware of it.

My 2016 Winnebago has the 6 speed and the chassis was built 7-15.
The shift indicator will read PRND421 instead of PRND321.

And Yes, the tranny does NOT downshift on some units. I'm one of those!
I have seen 2 threads on it already.

Well, it turns out some people are experiencing an issue with the new 6 speed, me being on of them.
Almost all trannys with a TOW/HAUL mode, will downshift on a downhill with just a tap on the brake. That will help maintain speed on a steep downhill.
Turns out, some of the newer ones don't do that. Makes for a scary descent and some HOT brakes!
Hopefully Ford recognizes the issue and makes the necessary repairs.
