2017 Ventana Le water heater operation

I have a new Ventana LE and can't figure out the water heater propane controls. There is a rocker switch with a light next to it. The salesman told me that to turn on the propane portion of the water heater I hold the rocker switch until the light extinguishes. If this is true then how do I know if it's on and how would I turn it off?

On my 2014 Ventana LE, I just turn the switch on (no holding it down), the light comes on and the propane water heater comes on after a brief period. When I turn the switch off, the light goes out and the propane water heater shuts off.

There is another switch in the panel to turn the shore power (120 VAC) electric water heating element on. And, don't forget that there is also a safety rocker switch in the actual water heater compartment that needs to be on for electric operation.

Maybe something has changed between 2014 and 2017, but I doubt it.

You just turn it on and leave it. The light will go out when it's operating properly. If light comes on later propane heater has turned itself off for some reason (i.e. no propane.) Turn it off by placing switch in off position. No reason to hold it in a particular position.
I usually use the electric heater to save propane, would use the propane if wanted faster recovery or electric not available.

So just to be clear, the propane switch next to the light is a non-locking rocker. A momentary press turns the propane on and another momentary press turns the propane off?

Thanks

OOOOKAAAY .My 2017 Ventana LE has an on/off rocker. On for propane operation off for off. Turn on, light comes on for a few seconds then light goes off....water heater heats water. Could Newmar have different unit in yours?

That's what I'm wondering, multiple calls to Newmar support have not helped. I even went to the Pennsylvania RV show and asked a Newmar rep. He took me to the Vantana LE they had there and what do you know, that one had a locking switch and the down position was stenciled "ON". I'm beginning to think I might have the wrong switch installed.

Thanks for your help.

I would have to think that either the wrong switch was installed or that the switch is defective. Using a momentary switch for this type of operation doesn't make sense to me. And, since bobsharon has the same year Ventana LE with an on-off rocket switch, it would seem more likely that something is amiss with your switch.

Call Newmar again and talk to someone who knows, even if you have to keep escalating the issue up the line. Pin them down to why there is a "momentary rocker switch" installed there instead of an "on-off rocker switch."
