2018 Bay Star LED Headlamp Upgrade

It was finally cool enough in the Beagle Bus Barn that I decided to tackle the install of Helga's LED headlights. The stock headlights were so poor in our New 2018 Bay Star that my wife said she refused to drive at night. Under the best conditions the road directly in front of you was barely illuminated and it the rain the lights were totally useless.

I have used Sylvania Ultrastar bulbs in my cars and they offer some improvement but they are expensive and have a short lifespan. The RV needed a greater improvement so I chose LED replacement bulbs from M4 Products.

The install was pretty simple and I am extremely pleased with the end result. Cannot wait to actually use them at night and see how they perform. We try not to drive at night or in bad weather, but sometimes we have no choice and this should make things much safer for us.

I have the exact same coach and issue, is any wire cutting involved or just plug and play? Do you mind send me the part numbers? At night itís so bad specially now itís getting dark much earlier.

Thanks

Bulb and Harness Installation is plug and play with no wire cutting. You can reach the bulb locations through the front engine compartment. You do need to either cut holes in the round plastic covers behind the existing bulb locations or simply remove them and not reinstall them for the wires to pass through since the controllers need to be mounted outside the head lamp assemblies. The headlight assemblies are high enough and well protected enough I am not worried about water ingress and the LED bulbs need airflow to their heat sinks anyway.

Link to part numbers:

http://www.m4products.com/headlights...ith-h11-bases/

Light patterns are very close to existing, but I don't think the existing were adjusted very well so I do plan on checking at required DOT distances that lights are properly adjusted. I believe that top of beam is supposed to be 4 feet at 25 feet away.

Also, I am looking at adding round LED driving/fog lights in the lower fascia once I figure out how to reinforce/mount them.

ZZOTTE - Also if your coach was affected by the headlight recall service bulletin (RSB) from Newmar be sure to take it to your dealer to get corrected. You can check by VIN number to see if the RSB applys to you or simply by turning on your high beams and checking if both the low beams and high beams illuminate concurrently. If you get only the high beams and not both high beams and low beams when high beams are selected then the recall applies to you and the dealer will have to order and install a small supplemental wiring harness.

Two questions here, why are there two separate part numbers? Is that a separate high and low beam bulb for each light? (i.e. I need two of each) or is is depending on the coach? I have a 2015 Bay Star Sport, so I'm trying to decide which ones I should be purchasing

Also did you ever figure out how to mount some round lights in those lower panels, I'm thinking about that too...

On my DS the beams were EZ to install. The low beam on the passenger side is impossible without removing the whole assembly. So I gave up. But my beams are BRIGHT.

Thanks for posting

Looking to improve our visibility in our Canyon Star as well. Need to make sure your choice of lights will work in our rig, believe they share the light enclosures. Not that it will entice the wife to drive, but should help on those rare occasions we are running late to happy hours.

Cheers,
John

Gremlin - Yes there are separate and different model bulbs for the low beam and high beam on our 2017 Bay Star. Also after installing the LED headlamps we decided driving or fog lights in the lower valence was not required for us.

Thank you that's great, can you confirm that your 2017 bay star has the headlights from 05-11 Tundra? That's what my 2015 baystar sport has in it. Trying to make sure the bulbs listed are the same.

Quick internet search for replacement bulbs for 2010 Toyota Tundra shows same 9005 and H11 as I used in the 2018 Bay Star. These are fairly standard bulb types for that era passenger car. I believe the headlamp assemblies for our 2018 Bay Star are from a Dodge Charger or Challenger.

Just to clarify things for 2017 BayStar owners (at least for my 3113 model) in case you are interested (while this thread was originally for 2018 BS year, 2017 was mentioned a few times and I am not sure things were clear AFA LED replacement part # for this year): I started looking into this and found my headlight assembly to be: DEPO 312-1186R (which is 05-07 Toyota Tacoma). My assembly uses a single 9003 H4 bulb (in an HB2 base) which handles both high and low beam. This looks to be totally different from the 2018 BS model year and 2 bulb LED replacements mentioned in this thread.

What I am looking at getting for my 2017 BS is:

HEADLIGHTS-H4-V7 Version 7 Headlight Kit with H4 (9003 HB2) Bases

I can verify you are correct, my BayStar Sport is a Tacoma headlamp and should be the H4 9003 not the previously mentioned lights, these are a single bulb. I ordered the first ones is this thread, and when I tried to install today found my mistake. I'm requesting return authorisation for my mistake.
