2018 DS4369 Engine Overheating

Hello All,
I just left the Spartan Charlotte facility after an annual service and an overheat complaint. My issue is that during stopped traffic, after 10 minutes or so, a warning buzzer comes on with a dash indication of a problem. I don't recall the message but I did notice engine temperature was high so I took the coach out of gear and revved up the engine. The temp went down and buzzer off. This has happened twice and I don't think this is normal. So Spartan's senior design engineer told me it was working normally and that Allison advises doing what I did to prevent the transmission from overheating. Putting the trans in neutral with the parking brake released causes a loud buzzer to sound off, otherwise I'm setting up the brakes to cool it down. I shouldn't have to do this in traffic!
Has anybody else out there had this issue?

Not sure their is a adjustment for your fan to spin faster but others have done the same as you to cool everything down, if you put brakes on I believe you will get buzzer warning with brake engaged.

Sure. When in traffic, if I put the transmission in neutral a buzzer goes off if the spring parking brakes are released. If I set up the spring parking brakes, there is no buzzer when in neutral. Hard to do in a slow moving traffic jam.

To cool the engine temperature with higher engine rpm and trans out of gear

I have not had this happen on my 18 DS 4369 K2. I do have the alarm that sounds if the parking brake is released with transmission selector in neutral.

Stuart on rare occasion, in 100+ weather and bumper to bumper traffic, I've watched the Allison temps raise dramatically. The Allison's are bullet proof, but they don't like being in drive, without moving, for long periods of time. On my previous two coaches there were a couple of times I put the coach in neutral and brought up the idle. It does take high outdoor heat and long spans of stopped traffic to cause an issue. One occasion was in Provo Utah traffic during the middle of summer.

On my Freightliner when I put the dash AC on, the fan goes to high speed. In 30,000 miles of driving in all kinds of temperatures, mountains and traffic jams I have never had a temperature warning. Understand the Spartan is different but maybe next time try putting the AC on if it wasn’t on when you had the alarm. If I were in a traffic jam that wasn’t going to move for a long time I would set the brake, also.

Otherwise it does not sound right to me.

My 07 Alpine does this as well, in traffic the trans heats up, and I have to put in neutral and run up the idle, if I know I am going to be stopped I set the parking brake, and use fast idle. Running the AC does not change this. This is normal, the alarm sounds because coach is not in drive, parking brake is not set, it is to remind you of this fact.
