The issue is that the customer can program new admin and entry codes. What we cannot do is get the codes to perform different functions. That takes a technician. Last year I had one code that locked/unlocked the door and another code that locked/unlocked the bays. This year both codes do the same thing. The unit is capable of four different functions. You should be able to use one code to lock/unlock all passenger side bay doors, another to lock/unlock all driver side doors and another two to do other functions. Newmar choses to ignore the capability of the unit.

I have followed the attached Trimark instructions to change my access code but have had no luck. Here is what happens:

Hold #3 button for a few seconds - it begins to beep
Enter #4 button 5 times – all lights start to flash
Enter #1 – This is what the instructions say and I assumed this was to indicate I am entering the first code, you can enter 4 separate access codes
Enter my new 5 digit code

At this point all lights just continue to blink for around 30 seconds and then they stop blinking. The new access code did not take and the factory access code is still working. There doesn’t seem to be a step in which the code is accepted.

Note, this is for the Access Code, I have not attempted to change the Authority Code.

Has anyone had luck changing the code and will you tell me what step I am missing?

Thanks,
Ken

I’ve brought up the issue to our service tech (we are at service center now) and Newmar’s response is that locks work as designed. There will no changes. The tech will ask to see what’s required to make it work as we would like it to so that I’ll be able to make the changes myself assuming it can be consumer configurable. He also mentioned that how the locks work is changing in the 2019 models, but he didn’t elaborate on what those changes are.

I figured this one out, I was missing the last step of rendering the code.

Wow, that's messed up. It almost makes me not want the electronic entry.

Why on earth would they have a system that doesn't allow you to just unlock the entry door?

That line of thinking would have you believe that in a coach without electronic entry, you would go around and unlock all of your compartment doors before entering the coach. Yes, you would want a way to quickly unlock all the compartments, but not have it happen every time you enter the coach.

What's worse is the standard "operating as expected" line that far too many companies use. That may be, then explain the logic why, especially if this was an '18 change.

That change is a nice recipe for people losing things out of their cargo compartments because they are unlocked and they don't realize it.

Precisely.

Newmars response that the system is working as intended, or the change was made based on customer requests is absurd. No right-minded person would want the cargo doors to "always" unlock every time they use the system. It is a shame that no-one from Newmar who has been contacted on this has taken a moment to "think" and realize the system should not be programed in this way.

If anyone finds a solution please keep us posted.

Great point on wear!

Take a good look and think about if the bay lock broke while the door is still closed. It happened to me and I hooked it back up properly, not with the cheap parts Newmar supplies. But you need to crawl in another bay to get it opened. So open close 500 times is a terrible thing to put cheap parts through.

Is this "feature" how the locks work on the '18 Ventana?

The above instructions are correct for changing the Authority Code.

To change the Access Code:

Hold #3 button for a few seconds - it begins to beep
Enter #4 button 5 times – all lights start to flash
Press #1 (to assign a new code to button 1)
Enter new 5 digit code
Enter new 5 digit code again
