2018 On Guard Collision Sys.

Sorry if this was answered before but can the On Guard Collision on a 2018 MA be totally disabled? I mean totally. No flashing lights, bells ringing or slowing the vehicle. Disabled as if it were never installed.

Thanx

If it can, I haven't yet figured out how to do it.

I did not find an answer by searching that way. That is why I asked. Lots of love it or hate it but no answer as to total disable on an 18.

Can you find the control box for system and remove fuse for the control box.
Not sure we can find in COM_NET a diagram of wiring systems are new in the Newmar RV's.

I donít think that you can disable the system. Some guys on the Entegra forum have tried very hard to disable the system and have been unsuccessful. The chassis makers will not disable it and will tell you it canít be done. Now we all know someone built and enabled it so it COULD be disabled but it might take a lot of computer programming to do it and not create other computer problems. All JMHO

Remember the primary customer for this technology is large truck fleets. They want this on the truck for obvious liability reasons and they don't want the drivers of these trucks to turn it off.

Very little documentation available for OnGuard. I have looked at the FreightLiner schematics. It appears the radar unit does all the processing then puts the data on the FreightLiner J1939 bus, then that the FreightLiner firmware decides how to handle the output. In other words the WABCO/FrieghtLiner "Chinese wall" appears to at the J1939 connector by the radar unit. The radar unit itself is powered by a 10 amp fuse but so far I have not found that fuse. When found I would guess pulling the fuse would result in a series of errors in the Optiview display.

In any event I intent to keep mine on even if it could be shut off. The issue is that when this unit has problems, it apparently can bring down other systems on board as that fellow with the Entegra has discovered.

I had an issue with my radar unit on my NA and was not able to use it, I know that Freightliner can disable it thru the computer as they did mine while waiting for the service bulletin to be completed but I also think you can disable it from the dash settings and by going to standard cruise or adaptive cruise. ( at least partially). I have found that with use I have really gotten to like it and I never disable it.

2018 On Guard Collision Sys.

My radar on my NA randomly shut down and the only way to reset is to shut the engine down and restart. Freightliner is aware of the problem and there is a software update to fix it. I had it done in Phoenix and has worked right for over 2000 miles since then. At the time mine was done update only worked on the NA but they likely have it for all now. I have had two or three problems with the chassis( pier steering unit, radar and air leaks) and Freightliner has bent over backwards to get them fixed, properly and very quickly including taking a power steering pump off the line and overnighting it to us. Have had several Spartans and first Freightliner now. Both have been very good but Freightliner has been quicker on parts and more service centers. All JMHO

On edit: I really like the adaptive cruise also.
