2019 Dutch Star Purchase
Well.....we drove to the dealer today (Tom Lindstrom), and had a serious talk about a new Dutch Star. The MA was about $150K out of our budget and no one donated to my Go Fund Me Account. I just looked at Red Barrons order and chose very similar options. We're interested in another 4018 with the fireplace and single recliner. We were never in love with the "L" shaped sofa, so we'll do, just a straight unit.
Here are some questions I have:
First..... I would like to try the Spartan chassis on this one. It seems a lot of people have had a front end bounce issue, but it appears that has been corrected with different shocks. They're also offering the air connection for my AFI brakes. Any major complaints with the chassis so far?
Second....Tom wanted to smack me when I said I didn't want the stainless steel package on the bay doors. Now that some of you have had them for awhile, is the SS easily marred? He also wanted to smack me when I said no heated floors. Were in California and will never travel in snow. Wife wears slippers and I don't care.
Third.....I didn't really discuss it with Tom, but I don't want any black in my paint on this coach. We will be going with the Seapearl exterior if we buy. I would like to exchange the black stripe for a brown used in the Velocity paint scheme. Does anyone know what kind of price they charge if a use a color they already have? I thought I read it would be no charge since I'm using an available color.
We optioned:
-The full Girard package with the Girard slide covers and awnings
-Washer / Dryer
-15K A/C units
-Dinette and chairs with roll top desk and table extensions
-Dishwasher
-Safe
-Shower grab handle
-Outside TV
-SaniCon
-All electric
-Central vacumn
-Sirius XM
-Xite Radio
-Front TV
-Winegard Travler open face sat
-Heated front seats
-Solar prep (I thought $5K for 400 watts of solar was excessive.)
-Surge/Transfer switch
-Pass through storage tray (may go with second one for Oasis bay)
-SS package on bay doors is still up in the air?????
-GE Advantium swap????
One of the things holding us back.....I just don't know if I have the energy to do all the mods again....door struts, Centramatics, mud flap rework, TST install, shelving, etc, etc, etc.
I do look forward to a BETTER paint job, colors that are easier to care for now that I'm getting older and ordering many things already installed versus buying off the lot.
Feel free to mention anything I missed. I do have a couple of specials to run wiring from the dash to hitch for my brake light indicator and wires from the half bath to wet bay for electric drain valve. Cable to bedroom TV from DirecTV receiver.

2019 Dutch Star Purchase
I like your overall list. Here’s a few thoughts/comments.
1. We have the pass through storage tray in the one full width compartment. As you know, the frame rails greatly restrict the height of whatever you store in that tray. I don’t know if Newmar will sell you two half trays for that compartment, but there are better trays available aftermarket that are cheaper and will do the job better IMO.
2. We have the central vac. Dealing with all that hose is a PITA. We carry a nice Dyson. Does a better job and is much easier to use.
3. Agree that Newmar has too big a price for too little solar.
4. Consider getting a Racal Mogul Dish (aftermarket) instead of the Winegard. I’ve had three Travelers and plan to go with RM on the next coach. I see you haveDirect. We have Dish, after many yrs with Direct. Should you ever decide to switch, with the RM it is easier to switch back and forth and RM supports Hopper 3 for Dish.
5. Get the SS. I know it’s bling, but looks sharp. Get the chrome on the steps too. You can get all this direct from manufacturer for less than Newmar charges and for a man of your talents it’s easy to install. Ours came on the coach. After a year, no Mark’s.
6. If you are interested in WiFi booster, now’s the time to get it installed.
7. We don’t have the heated floors but most folks we know have them and love them. Next coach will have them. We have the two recliners. Never use the front TV. In fact, it’s unplugged because we got tired of it turning on by accident. Yep, with two recliners you lose the FP, but with heated floors you don’t need it. But slippers ARE cheaper.
8. We love our Spartan chassis. Two big bennies right off the top - check out the location of the air dryer cartridge and the ease of access for changing the air filter compared to the FL.
9. We hate our microwave. Pop for the GE.
10. Consider adding an external sat Dish connector to cord reel bay.
11. Hot water to front? Or is that standard now?
12. The cabinets above the windows on the driver’s side (FWS) are not very deep above the table area. As a special, some folks have had them extended out to be the same depth as the ones toward the front. But be careful not to create a head banger.
13. If that surge/transfer switch is an extra cost “ upgrade”, I’d go with a straight transfer switch and add my own PI surge suppressor.
Ok, that’s a start.
And the big benefit of passing on the MA is you won’t have to change your handle to Mountain Aire Don.

You probably know this all ready, but for those who don’t, Summit Stainless Steel is the supplier of the trim for Newmar coach baggage doors, etc. They also make these products available direct.

Mods
Don,
I hope you get great value for your old coach. With all the great mods, they should trade you straight across.
I know they will not have any problem selling your coach.
I'm sorry I didn't donate to your Go Fund Me page. But I didn't donate to NealC either.
Dutch Star Don has a better ring to it than Mountain Aire Don.
Good Luck

If you are considering a good size solar setup order 2 solar preps. I also ordered 2 , 1"conduits from the half bath electrical cabinet to the storage bay below for monitors or anything else I want from inside to underneath.

Solar prep as in just the wire run should be like 150. Do not get solar but just the prep ie wires.
Stainless is worth it not only for the look but the protection of the baggage doors. Repair of any one door costs almost the same as the entire stainless. I had the bottom of two doors peeled open like sardine cans. You can order it and install on your own for nearly 1K less than Newmar's price, it's price vs. convenience.
Heated floors will probably be a big player for resale and I’m sure you’ll like them from what everyone says.
I’m not sure on the microwave as it depends on your usage. The GE is a lower power microwave but offers more oven options. I prefer the higher watt microwaving. Still debating. Also it’s much cheaper to do yourself. I just got an estimate from Newmar and buying the microwave outright is 6-700 cheaper. They will allow me to bring it and they will install for 1 hour labor.
I'm a fan of the central vac, it has great suction and is convenient. I had forgotten I ordered it and bought a Dyson handheld which I also like, I ended up leaving the dyson at home and really like the central vac BUT being just me I don't have problems with room to store the hoses which I used to keep in a rubbermaid bin under the bed and now keep in one of the drawers in the bedroom. I would get it with your coach, whether you use it or not is a different decision so you could decide to leave the hoses at home and use a handheld of your choosing, but I'd still get the option installed.
Congrats. You deserve a new toy.

.....and I as looking forward to your Mod schedule of your new coach!!!
I would get the Heated Floors. You don't have to drive in snow to appreciate them. When its cold and wet out, it makes a difference (and...they make no noise as opposed to heat pump). I think even you would love em Don.

#1. We live in Fl and bought our coach off the lot. It had floor heat. I said, "when am I ever going to use floor heat?" Well, I would never order another coach without it. We use it whenever the temp gets below 60. Keeps the coach warm without drying the air like a forced air system, and seems to work fine as a stand alone system down to about 40 deg..
#2. The outside TV is practically useless during daytime hours. I ordered a 3M screen to try to cut the reflections and glare and am installing it next week. I would think mounting a TV lower (like in the pegboard bin) would work much better. That's IF you could get that bin with a top hinged door.
All that said, I know the allure of a new coach is very strong. I went gaga over a new Mountain Aire at Gillette. In the end, for me, better the devil you know than the one you don't. I'm keeping the one I know...

-Washer / Dryer[emoji1303]

-Dinette and chairs with roll top desk and table extensions do you have experience with the roll top? We have the buffet/desk. The roll top has a lot of exposed hardware
-Dishwasher we did not order, wanted the space and read many accounts of needing to prewash dish’s and smell
-Safe did not order, not very safe, and on the 4369 got a lot more shelf’s in closet
-Shower grab handle[emoji1303]
-Outside TV[emoji1303]
-SaniCon[emoji1303]
-All electric[emoji1303]
-Central vacumn we ordered might go with cordless stick vac next time
-Sirius XM[emoji1303]
-Xite Radio[emoji1303]
-Front TV[emoji1303]
-Winegard Travler open face sat[emoji1303]
-Heated front seats passed on this
-Solar prep (I thought $5K for 400 watts of solar was excessive.)prep only
-Surge/Transfer switch[emoji1303]
-Pass through storage tray (may go with second one for Oasis bay)only went with small tray behind Oasis, tray really limits space
-SS package on bay doors is still up in the air????? I love it and really strengthens the doors, have had a door edge hit my garage wall with no damage
-GE Advantium swap????
Don we live 20 miles apart, and I struggled with the heated floors and added them after the first order and would not be with out them, hardly have used Oasis! Amazing!

Hi,
The Centramatics may fit your new coach. Consider checking it out.

Don you are very good about helping everyone on this forum including me so I wanted to pass on some of what we did on our 2017 London Aire. Maybe it will help you on your specials. I am listing my cost.
Special Paint $990
2 radio speakers in master bath with on off switch $180
2 12V outlets to left of steering wheel $165
1 12V in rear closet ( for TPMS extender)
LED lights under ODS slide out on separate switch $375 (really nice at night when dumping or looking in basement)
Advantium Microwave $1198
LED light strip in overhead cabinet where the switches are that comes on when opened $188. (Really helps at night)
Additional 110 outlet by dinette $90
Here are some but not all of my Options
Floor heat, ( did not have it on our first coach but glad we got it on this one)
Desk dinette with buffett table
LED lights under door side slide out
Large storage tray with access from one side ( very happy I did this)
Power pass thru tray
Stainless steel trim
We used some Essex and King Aire specials such as floors, counter tops, back splashes, sinks, chairs, and cabinet hardware. Also had some other custom things done.
We had a drawer by our washer reworked so it is tall enough for items we use washing clothes.
I should have added a connection for a portable satellite for the few times when we are parked in trees.
We have added a power theater seat where our recliners were and we are both very happy with it. It is very comfortable, bolts to the floor and matches our leather.
Hope this helps

I agree with going with the RF Mogul sat dish instead of Winegard. The RF Mogul is field serviceable and a tad more stout. The controller is also more versatile. You can do a re-aim without totally taking it down. The seeking time is not bad because they incorporate a GPS receiver that helps set the scew a bit faster.
I've worked on my previous coach's RFM and would recommend that before you ever install it that you replace all 6 flat head screws that hold the top yoke with the elevator gearing with ones that are a 1/4 inch longer and locTite them. It is easy to do when with the unit before you mount it on top. It's isn't hard otherwise.

Very exciting Don!
We spent several hours working on our 2019 DSDP 4369 order last week. We don't have all the approvals and numbers in yet but I'll give you as much info as I've learned so far. I'm 95% sure I'll order a Spartan chassis.
Paint special: It's the same price if you change one color or all four. Dealer cost per Jon Steinbring is $1,270 this year. If I remember correctly, retail price is $1,895 this year. We're opting to use all four colors from the 2018 MADP Niagra scheme. We thought about simply substituting the Nautical blue color for the red/maroon color in Seapearl but decided to change all four colors for the same price.
Awning package: Yes, I want the better slide toppers and it was almost the same money to special those toppers and the awnings with no electric window awnings.
Dinettes: A word of caution here. I recommend sitting in any 2019 dinette before ordering. If not a Euro booth, the chairs are nicer (opinion) with the leather seating surfaces but I think they are a little taller. I have long legs and had trouble not hitting my thigh when sitting at a 2018 dinnette. The 2019's are worse...major conflict for me. We're doing the extended Euro booth.
Sanicon: I'm pricing prep for Sanican versus the option. I'm not yet sure that I want it but I want the potential future installation to be as simple as possible. If prep is too much, I'll opt for Sanicon.
Radios/Cameras: You're opting for the Xite radio. How about the 360 cameras? I drove a 2019 with the option and my impression was I liked it. It's on my order sheet.
Satellite: We're opting for the standard feature sat prep and installing a dish later...maybe at delivery at the dealer. The reason for this is that if you order the Sat from Newmar, they do not install a conduit, just the cable run. I want the conduit for the future, Sat or something else.
Storage tray(s): Right now I'm leaning at going with 2 non-pass through trays, one in the pass through compartment (passenger side) and one on passenger side of the Oasis module. We rarely get into driver's side compartments and want to be able to go higher with storage on that side. If using a pass through tray, one has to either remove tall objects or keep objects below the frame rails. If using just a large tray, this concern only applies to the storage area between the rails.
SS package: I love it; my wife says, "why?" I'm going to do it and ask for forgiveness later, if necessary!
GE Advantium: Getting a price for that one. Don't know how much yet. If a few hundred dollars, I'm doing it.
Cable run: This is accomplished with a CAT 6 run (with HDMI ends) to Bedroom from the Matrix. In the 4369, the matrix is located to the side and behind the kitchen sink. As the 4018 is essentially the same plan with a shorter rear bath, I suspect the matrix is located in the same place. Don't be discourage by having this special refused by Newmar. The dealer must word it properly to be approved.
As far as 12v connections in the cockpit and passenger area: Driver = 2 USB's with a cover located below left controls (leveling, tranny, etc.) and above storage cubby down there. One cigarette lighter power point in the dash to the right of the steering wheel. The USB and mini jack at dash level to the left of the steering wheel are for the radio system. Passenger = 2 USB's with a cover at the rear of the switches console (right of the seat). There's also 2 USB's on the 120v outlet behind the passenger chair that would be powered with the inverter. Also, there is a charging pad for both the driver and the passenger seats.
We're also ordering Wifi/cellular booster prep that is a conduit from the control panel cabinet to the roof. We'll decide if we need it but want the flexibility for future use without putting new holes in the roof. This cabinet is lighted for 2019 models.
Heated Floors and Seats: Yes.
Surge Protection/Transfer switch: Yes, but I'll continue to initially check pedestals with my portable b4 hooking up.
Solar Prep: Just in case.
Solid Doors for bedroom bypass doors(2): No reeded glass for us! We saw it in a 2019 New Aire and there's way, too much light filtration. Because a New Aire only has one door, a person can hang a shade on the inside of it to dampen the light. However, the Dutch Stars have 2 doors to cover that opening. You can only put a shade on one of the two doors because they stow against each other. I'm usually up and reading/coffee a couple of hours before the DW. Being in the parlor with reeded glass doors will be annoying for her. One must also consider having guests in the parlor. Privacy is important. You can see silhouettes of people on both sides of the glass and it is magnified with back lighting. This special is non-negotiable but has already been approved for another customer by Newmar.
Well, that's the info I have to date. Hope it helps. Good luck with your decision and thank you for all your help and contributions here. They are very appreciated!
