I suspect that a decision was made by Newmar that when using this mechanism it would be installed at maximum height to accommodate the most people. The hinged joints just make the fixture look nifty in its present installation.

Fully functioning hinge joints would be more be desirable in lieu of a "nifty" look.

Well obviously I was wrong... Functioning adjustable arms was not in the design. I just got this response from Newmar about the Mountain Aire shower head - "The arm was installed to get the shower head as high as possible in shower but it was not meant to be adjustable. They will not change the design of the shower head in the Mountain Aire."

That just seem wrong.

Maybe I would make this decision if I had no other option, and in a time crunch, but to "design " it this way.....wow...that is not innovation.

I have a 2019 MA on the line as we speak
I was completely unaware of this potential problem
Has anyone verified the concern of lack of adjustment on a unit in production
May not be a problem for us as we are both 5’5” or less
Thanks for feedback

Being short might actually make it worse. My short 5’ wife was the one that discovered the problem. The shower head won’t adjust down much more than what is shown in the early picture. Perhaps you will be able to verify that the arm can be dissembled and free the trapped knob.

We have spent a couple weekends in our new MA and the main head is unusable for us. We ended up using the hand held head as our shower main head. I am 6’2” and it is still to high and at the wrong angle. Having said that the shower in the 4551 is huge! I think they know they made a mistake. Hard to believe they’re not going to fix it.

When we were at the Hoots rally the proposed "fix" was to add another ball joint just before the main shower head. This may make it adjust lower, but it seems to be a short sighted "quick fix".

If you back the thumbscrews out can the arms be disassembled?
If it was put together it should come apart it seems to me.

Yes, GolferDave showed me his shower head and he had disassembled it to free the arm. I'm not sure with the angle of the ceiling if this would provide the ability to lower the angle however. I would like to get my hands on one to see if I could find a better solution than what was offered from Newmar. My idea at this time would be to replace the entire assembly with a gooseneck shower arm that would just extend from the wall. I was worried if you unscrewed the existing arm and the piping behind the wall was not attached, the other end could fall away from the wall and there is no way to retrieve it for reassembly.

Showerhead Solution!

Yes, the knuckles can be dissassembled which will allow the whole mechanism to be readjusted to a reasonable position. This is as simple as unscrewing one of the handles, removing the chrome tightner and then removing a speed clip. Then the knuckle can be taken apart and realigned. This was a very simple repair,

Here’s a pictures of what I did. Sorry for the sideways pictures.

So, the original problem of disconnecting the arms and changing the original configuration was pretty easy. But the shower head still pretty much pointed at the shower door. S, I went shopping on Amazon and found this 60° chromed elbow and I installed it today. This is a quick fix for the shower head angle, whether or not you reconfigure the shower head arms.

There is the recall bulletin for the 2019 MA shower head. Has anyone had it done yet?
Thanks,Daryl
