38% off MSRP; What am I missing?

DW and I have been looking for our first Class A, primarily Tiffins, for four years. Recently I noticed that Newmar has a similar floor plan in the Bay Star line, 3401. We have seen Newmar's on lots and recognize the quality.

Although we are concentrating on used units we ran across this today on the RVDirect site. Please see link below. We don't live in a dream land and know great deals are usually never as advertised but this is a nationally recognized company. Granted it is a 2016 model but it is still new inventory.

https://www.rvdirect.com/stockmodels...ocknum=TM2464#

The MSRP, copy available on the linked site, is $148K and is being offered for sale at $91K.

We have never owned an RV before so I might be missing something that an educated/experienced eye will catch.

What am I missing?

Thank you for your insights...Dirk

We got 30% off when we bought our new Dutch Star-- ordered with a bunch of specials, so a unit that's a year old, maybe that amount of discount is reasonable. Newmar used to have a retail price list for everything including all available options. It would be prudent to compare the build sheet of the one you are interested in with retail cost and then go from there. You can get the VIN or Newmar Unit number from the dealer, call customer service at Newmar and they will give you all the info on that unit.

We bought our new 2015 American Coach this past September at 46% off MSRP. The dealer needed to move it fast. It had been on the lot for 2 years.
Deals are out there. Go in with eyes wide open and don't be afraid to walk if anything seems amiss.

38% off an already depreciated coach. It's a '16. '18's will be arriving in a few months.

A dealers demo perhaps? Has a little bit of wear and tear, but still has the classification of new with warranty?

Check the actual build date so you know how long it's been sitting / abused on dealer lot. Batteries are often abused (let run complete flat) on a dealer lot. New batteries can be negotiated or figured into your offer.

RVDirect is part of the RVOne group. They have Albany RV, Buffalo RV, Des Moines RV, Orlando RV, and Tampa RV. They also represent both Newmar and Entegra at the Hershey show every September. Traditionally they will move over 100 units at the Hershey Show.

That's almost a 2 year old unit-2018's will be out in 5 months! You should be able to buy it for $83- $85K if they want to move it.

Happy Trails

What is your point? Volkswagen sells 10 million cars a year......GM is recalling 29 million cars, mostly for the ignition switch....and we now have an insight into the culture of those two companies.

Enterga just sold to THOR...maybe the worst customer service in the industry (and possible the worst quality in the industry).

And Newmar Corp..... overrated.....

If you get a price you are comfortable with, the Bay Star in a nice coach. I originally tried to deal with RVDirect when we were looking. Over 3 days, I was never able to talk to the same person twice and received 4 different prices. Unless you are local to them, getting service from another dealer could be problematic. I ran into the "You didn't buy it from us, so you go to the bottom of the pile" a couple times. I found a local RV service place that does good work and have been happy with them. Newmar will work with a non-Newmar dealer to service your coach.

RV Direct is a volume dealer. Their main goal is to get you out the door, and add another check mark in the sold column. These are my personal opinions.

We ended up flying from Baltimore to Fort Myers and getting ours from North Trail. Our first trip, was the drive home

In the end, Newmar Customer Service, IMO, is second to none. They will take care of you. I have yet to be disappointed with their service.

Good Luck!

So is there an RV manufacturer out there you LIKE? Or do you just hate ALL of them?
