I replaced my 80 pound sony wigh a sony LCD 26 inch Bravia . In the directions there is a one time set up that finds all the air channels and all the HD channels. I was at a TP between Orlando and Tampa and decided to try the 30 minute one time new set up. There were 45 digital or HD channels and it started at channel 2 and ended at 68. Lots of the channels had decimals and there was some doubling. Is this the future or is it a temporary thing? I know the government makes the 4 or 5 major TV CO send out free signals. I am near an airport now and the HD jumps a bit when the planes go over head. Neil??????????

There are probably a couple of reasons for the doubling-up channels that you are seeing.

One is dual broadcast of traditional analog and new all-digital signals. This will slowly go away over the next couple of years as federal law is requiring broadcasters to migrate to digital. Then there is doubling of channels for those that are broadcasting in just a digital signal ("low" definition) and high-def.

Another possible reason you are seeing double is because you are in an area where local content providers have transmission towers that overlap. Normally these repeater systems are more than far enough apart to not overlap, but sometimes they do.
