45ft coach is only 1 foot longer than 43ft?

I find it odd that the 40ft coach is 40' 10", 43ft is 43' 10" but the 45ft is 44' 10"

So it's only 1 foot longer than a 43, very odd!

I think 45’ is the max allowable length in most states.

This has been a long time issue with coach length. All the coach builders have done this and that is why we owners need to read the spec. information on this and many other items. Another good example is HP rating that don't include torque. You can have a 300HP B series with 700 torque and then get a C or L series Cummins with 300HP and over 1100 torque. Same HP but a big difference when pulling a 6% grade. Both list 300HP but some don't tell the engine series or torque.

Many models are longer than advertised. For example, I had a "40 ft" Beaver that was actually 40'11". But they can't do that with the 45's since 45 feet is an absolute legal limit, so the difference will be more apparent when comparing a 45 footer to something shorter.

Our '05 Northern Star is billed as 40' it measures 40' 8" from stem to stern.

Our Tuscany 42GX is 43 and barely fits in my 48 foot shop

The ladder adds length as well

And shall we talk about how ludicrous it is, that a Non-Commercial Class B License is NOT required of you have that “41 foot” rig, since it is “40 feet or less” in the DMV standards!!!!???

Don’t get me started on my opinion. Ok. Too late. This is probably some legal slight of hand, agreed. But, in my opinion, the driving skills needed for a 40.75’ are no less than that of a 43.75’ and, therefore, should require the same testing and license class!!

Move to Fla. We can legally drive our 45' MH with a 30' Stacker behind it weighing 70K lbs. total on our regular license.

Right. I’m not trying to get out of the testing. Just the opposite. I feel rigs this size should ALL fall under the same requirement. Granted, you gotta draw the line somewhere. However, with the shear amount of “40-foot” class rigs out there, it would be best that they meet the requirement.

I’m not trying to draw enemy fire, and FOR SURE don’t want I feed the DMV more funds to squander. I’m just looking at it from a safety and skill point of view.

Now...the big question, you’re asking...is WHAT would be the more logical length limit? I’ll leave that to another “discussion”. HA

The 48' shop is measured from the outside perimeter? Walls are say 9 " thick? (6x6 plus perlins on both sides?) Plus the garage doors that are inset?

What I really find unusual, is Newmar owners have over 400 posts about the sale, whereas Winnebago owners have 5!

Newmar owners are know to purchase numerous coach's in there RV ownership time. Winnebago really doesn't have a high line of diesels coaches like Newmar. If Newmar had purchased Winnebago there would have been less concern. These points and a number of others make this a hot topic at Newmar forum. Remember Newmar forum on irv2 is the most active. Did I hear right that Winnebago no longer has there own factory owners club?
