5 Button Dual Therm Comfort Control
Hello all,
We have a 2004 Newmar Dutch Star 4009. We went to turn on the heat pumps and the 5 button Dual Therm Comfort Control does not come on at all. How many fuses and how many breaker switches are there for this item and where would they be located? Also because the controller board won't light up, could it be the controller that needs replacing?
Thanks for your forum!
Carol

Make sure the on/off switch located on the bottom of the controller is on. Hope this is all that's wrong.

If you have 2 A/C units one of them powers the Comfort control usually the front but can be either. It uses telephone line cables to connect from A/C to A/C and the tstat. You have a Newmar so your stuck trouble shooting this on the roof Pull the A/C covers off there should be a panel on the pass side with 3 screws holding it on under it is the control board for the a/c there is a 3 amp fuse on the board that powers the T Stat. Coming up from the coach is a 110v line for a/c power and 6 wires 2 yellow 2 blue and a red and black and the phone cables. The red and black are the 12v power to the A/C unit and can be hooked up in either unit. Very seldom do both units have power to the red and black. The 2 blue wires are for the furnace and the yellow wires are for compressor cutout if your EMS system uses it. I have a short cable i take up with me along with the tstat so I can test on the roof. I also take my cable tester up with me. Unless you have ground support plan on several trip up and down while testing. Many times I find a bad cable end and can just clean it up or replace it and the problem is gone. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum and irv2.
Here is a Brochure and Owners Guide for you and below in my signature you will find links to many others for your Newmar.
Here is the instructions for 5 button control found in QT's 1 & 2.
As said make sure it is on with bottom switch and use MODE button to select the heat pumps indicated on display for ZONE'S 1 & 2..
Congratulations on your DS many safe travels for you.

Thanks for your answers! The on/off switch doesn't do it's job. I looked at the comfort control circuit board and there's a tiny amount of crud on the backside, near the telephone line receptacle, but I don't think it's burned.
My husband recently washed the roof. It was quite dirty from spending the summer under Douglas fir trees. Could that have caused some damage to the fuse or wiring especially since the water pressure was over 100 psi? Is the fuse on the A\C circuit board the first place to start?
When you say "bad cable end" do you mean the phone line cable end?
Thanks again!

YES, Get some contact cleaner spray at RS and clean the plug that's dirty on end of cord and plug on back of control.
If he didn't spray pressure hose into the AC on roof it should be OK if he did you may have problems.
Some times the therm control has to be reset and you would have to reprogram the MODE'S IN CONTROL.

Carol,
The 5 Button CCC requires 12 VDC for it to power up. No 12 VDC - no work.
See if you have blown a fuse that powers the 5 Button CCC first. Then if none found you can check the cable coming into the CCC with a DVOM meter to make sure there is 12 VDC at the cable.
5 Button CCC Manual attached.

If you have power at the display but no A/C or heat you might try holding the up and down buttons together for 5 sec. It should display ff and that clears the unit and you can then try to program to get A/C and Heat.

Thanks again for all your input. My husband removed both AC covers and opened both electrical boxes and everything looked pristine. The fuse was good. We are thinking we need a new Comfort Control center.

Hi CarolS, we have the same problem with our 2004 DSDP 4009 & it seems to happen in the fall of the year when inside moisture is high?? I called Newmar service & sent them a picture of the circuit board. They said that is looks like a moisture problem with water following down the cable & shorting out the device.
To solve the problem I rerouted the cable so that it comes up to the control centre from the bottom, made a shield of plexiglass & installed it between the wall & the device. Also I remove the control centre from the coach & only reinstall it when we travel. So far so good with the new control centre & I keep a close watch on the humidity inside the coach.

Thanks for your reply, bmerpaw. We are going to use our portable electric heater until we get to our winter destination and then order a new control center.
