50 amp extension cord info

I'm about to install a 50 amp PI protector in the electrical bay of our DSDP and want to use the method that will allow me to remove it if it fails. I can get connectors on Amazon, but will still need a few feet of cord to make it all work.
I've been searching for a 50 amp cord with molded ends, but cannot find a short one. Anyone have a source for connectors/5’ of cord? Suggestions?

You can buy the plugs & receptacles at Lowes or Home Depot and heavy 6 gauge SO cord to make what you want.

I used this and cut off what I needed for the project then added a plug off amazon and ended up with a 30-ish foot extension cord.

Hugh’s Autoformer sells the install kit which is a 50 amp plug, socket, and 5 ft of cable for around $80. I bought the cable at Home Depot for $40.00 for 6 feet and ordered the plugs, ($18) from Amazon, and the sockets, ($26) also from Amazon. I ll have two plugs with bypass capability for the PI and for a Hugh’s.

I bought good end recepticles from Home Depot but had to special order them. Home Depot.com

I made my extension cord longer than I would ever need (40 feet). But I needed that length a couple times.

Most RV stores have "pigtails" like a short (say 2 or 3 feet) cord with either a plug or a socket.. Should meet your needs.

Hi - If you have the remote readout on your Progressive unit all you need to do to bypass the unit is to flip the switch on the remote readout. The surge suppression will continue to work but the computer related features are bypassed.

Tom if the unit malfunctions and needs to be repaired does that bypass switch still work? I m planning another plug to take the PI out of the loop if it goes down and I need to wait for parts.

Hi - No in that case the switch is useless. It is a bypass to temporarily get you by. Without the EMS in circuit you would need to reconnect the land line to the transfer switch (which in essence is what you are preparing for). Our Progressive EMS has been flawless and is in it's third coach so I'm not apt to go through the work of adding the extra connection as I see the odds in my favor. Also there is so little extra room in my electrical bay that it would be difficult to do. (DSDP4369). Just wanted to make sure you knew that the switch was there.

If the Progressive Industries hardwired EMS fails, the bypass switch will still bypass the unit and provide power, so I wouldn't be concerned about creating a physical bypass.
Even with the bypass on, you still get surge protection unless of course the input side gets fried in which case you'd need to replace the board, but again the bypass will still allow power to flow to the coach.
I have verified this with the Progressive Industries technical team.

If you do decide you still want to create the bypass, Home Depot sells the 6 gauge 4 conductor cable by the foot. It's the same quality and thickness heavy duty outdoor cable supplied by the OEMs.
