Hello Folks, We are new to the class A world been TT'ing for about 5 years so purchased a 94 34ft MountainAire. Really like the interior. Been cleaning and trying to figure out how stuff works using this site. I have a toggle switch mounted just inside the entrance door on the base of the cabinet. Traced wiring and just goes through floor and disappears so feel it must be original. The toggle looks to have been replaced as there is about a 1/2 inch hole pretty close to it. The switch does not stay in the up or down position. Any ideas what this gizmo is??
Tks

Our 2000 Dutch Star had two switches beside the door, one for the porch light and the other for the steps. But they were on/off switches, not momentary contact like you describe. Maybe a latching switch for the storage bay lights or water pump? Likely not the water pump though but who knows on a used rig?

Would the latching switch act as a master switch for the storage bay lights?

Is the switch spring loaded to stay in the center position? What color are the wires? How many wires?
Do you also have a light near the switch?
Sorry for so many questions, just trying to get an idea of what the switch does. This MAY have been added by former owner.

Yes the switch is spring loaded. I took the time this afternoon to pull the switch and check and see if there was any voltage. None anywhere. The switch has a total of 8 wires. On the right side from the back on the top and going down is a red one, then a white one, and then two blacks. On the left hand side from the back on the top going down is a black one, a green one, and 2 red ones. They are all 14 guage stranded wire. There is no light near the switch and all lights work off of switches once I got bulbs replaced. I went to the power panel box and cannot find where anything has been added. I am beginning to wonder if this was a switch for a power awning that had been added and then removed as it is manual now. By the way thanks for the feedback.

Hi wilbrr53,
Welcome to iRV2 and the Newmar Owner's forum. Do you have a "store" switch for the coach. This switch is center loaded, like you describe. Its' purpose is to place the coach in "store" mode to save the coach batteries when the coach is not being used. An easy way to test this is to turn on lights and press the bottom of the switch and let it come back to center. If the lights go out, then it is the store switch.

My power awning switch has only a couple of wires. My basement light master switch is not center loaded.

I don't know where you are located, but if you can attend the NKK Rally at the Tampa Super Show, there will be factory techs there. I think they could answer your question.

Gary, thanks for the reply and invitation. Chassis & Coach store switches are located above the door inside cabinet.

53 Panhead thanks for the note. I believe the switch that was in question was probably a bypass around the control module from a previous owner. The dealer had just installed new controller and motor when we purchased the MA and it works just as the manual says it should. It is set up that the only time the steps retract is when you turn on the ignition. There is a switch on the wall for selecting whether you want this feature to work or not. The switch is an original as the switchcover plate has 3 switches in it. One for interior lights, one for outside lights and the one for the steps. Thanks again 53 panhead
SIDENOTE Just finished adding new ground to hydraulic pump solenoid and all jacks now work as they should. Thanks again and have a good one.
