A&E Weather Pro 9000 Main Awning
We almost made it. I mean this might have been our 5th trip (in 4 1/2 years with the coach) and nothing bad happened. It was not to be. I went to close the main awning so we could head home and the awning would move only 1/4 turn in or out. So I got out the ladder and removed the screw at the top of the forward arm. I could then roll up the awning manually. While doing this I heard tinkle, tinkle, tinkle as the awning was closed. It sounds like something broke loose inside the roller tube. The broken piece must have jamed whatever is in the roller tube.
Now that I am at the stick house, I can't seem to figure out how to remove the roller tube front end cap. It looks like there are rivets holding the end cap in place.
Has anyone removed the front end cap? If so does this release the spring tension?
thanks,

Hi Roger,
Dumb me, can't seem to find the information about awning using the link in your post. Can you narrow it down for me? How about a post number that each post is given inside a thread?

Thanks Roger. After looking at the drawings I think I will wait until the aggravation of the problem out weighs the risk of drilling out the pop rivets to get the end cap off.

You wouldn't know where to get the diagram for an A & E model Up05036 window awning would you? Mine has a stuck motor and I can't figure how to get the end caps off. Called Newmar and checked all over the web. No luck.
It's the awning over curb side bedroom window.

Thanks, I don't know why it can't be online. If I get it I'll scan it to PDF and throw it up to you

A & E isn't anymore. It's now Dometic.

The end cap is indeed rivited on.. Remove it with a drill.
I have not (yet) done this (I have to soon) but I have watched it done by a pro
Also, you very likely broke one or two wires when you did the hand roll job
These wires are color coded so re-connecting them is no big job.

The info I gave up-thread is specific to A&E,, I;ve never looked closely at a carefree
However on A&E they are just pop-rivets. you drill 'em out and pop in new ones when done.

Have added the Carefree links to Quick Tips thread for future reference.
Dometic A&E should have the information as good as Carefree but haven't found the links as yet. Not sure you even can get same info from them as good, when you order their manuals.

Here's a parts breakdown for the electric Carefree on the Essex. You have to drill or break the left end cap to get to the motor. New motors and gear drive come with a modified end cap.
Also guide for motor replacement
PS 007 They don't have a phone #. Newmar conferenced called them for me.
