Contacted Newmar to get an estimate on having the front upper roof re-painted as the clear coat is peeling off. Kind of a shocker. $3300.00. I think that's a bit much. I know the motorhome is out of warranty but I would think being that they did have a problem with this situation that it would be a little more reasonable then that. I'm not looking for something for nothing but WOW. I know times are tough but they don't have to make up for that on me alone.

Certain 'things' are so much, look at the polishing job at Newmar = $ 2,000
I get it done here for $300 and in Mexico maybe 100

Just get from some local body shop an estimate, and see what the price might be?

Tell Newmar "Thanks but no thanks"

Now, I do know this: Automotive paint is kind of expensive, I have two cans of custom made automotive touch up spray.. These are the large "12 oz" I think cans (The same size as a Rust-O-lem full size spray can) set me back sixty bucks.. Of course they are the exact same color as the coach.

A pint of paint, is also about sixty bucks (Between the two cans they have a half pint in them as I recall)

A pint covers 50 sq feet.

A good body shop,,,, Can likely do the job for less... Avoid the big chain shops look for a body man who's been around for oh, say 40 years, If you are near Detroit. MI, I can give you the name of one.. He will not be able to bring your rig indoors though, works out of his house now days, Lost his shop to the infernal revinew folks.

His rates, it seems, were (And still are) a bit.. too good.

Appreciate the comments. Yeah, I don't think Newmar will be doing it. I have a friend that has a body shop in Wyandotte, MI. The problem there again is getting the rig inside but possibly where I store the moho they have a warehouse with a door big enough to get it in. Possibly could pay one of his guys to do it there. Wouldn't expect it to take more then a couple of days. I'll have to see when we get home.

Newmar was picking up 60% of that cost and the owner was paying 40%. Ask Newmar if they are still doing this. It could be your motorhome is too far out of warranty. I had mine do at two years out of warranty and paid 40%. Newmar sanded, painted and applied clearcoat to the tops of the front and rear caps and to the radius from the sidewall to the roof on both sides. It took them two days.

We had a problem with the paint with our newly purchased used car hauler. As we were making some tight turns in a Wal-Mark parking lot the box part of the car hauler severly rubbed the paint. We had it repaired at a great Hot Rod restoration, paint, body shop in Lake Havasu, AZ, as they are used to doing 1st class work.

Not sure if this is an option for you, but Newmar offers 50% off all work completed during the winter months. They keep your coach inside and they store it for you, at no charge, until early spring. Might be a possiblity to check into.

I'm not defending Newmar, but they are one of the few motorhome manufacturers who often gives out of warranty customers breaks in prices. Try going to an automobile dealer with a 7 year old car and get them to fix something for 60% off.

Well I took some pictures of the front upper cap paint and clearcoat peeling and went to a truck body shop. After looking at the pictures they worked up a price to repaint and clearcoat the front area for $800.00. Now that's a far cry from $3300.00 that the factory wanted. Hope to get it scheduled to be fixed the first of September. Then our baby will look GOOD again.
