I've been doing a bit of reading about the noise and vibration issues with the Dometic Penguin A/C's. I read from someone that they were looking into replacing their Dometic units with Coleman units but never found any followup about what they found out. Is the switch festible? Also, the new Brisk Air is billed as being the quiestest and most power efficient a/c on the market. Is the Brisk Air interchangable with the Penguin and is it really any quieter or less of a vibrator?? Does any manufacturer use the Brisk Air as standard equipment? Thanks for any info.

This may or may not be your problem but if you are having noise and vibration issues, before you throw money at it do a preventive maintenance run..
As part of this run you should go up on the roof, remove the cover, clean the condenser coils and INSPECT the fan..(it may need cleaning, mine did) do the same with the evaporator coil and the blower... Might fix the vibration problem.. might not but considering the cost ($0.00 and a bit of time) worth it.

Both A/C units have been cleaned and had new bottom gaskets installed as well as new gaskets between unit and shroud. I'd still like to know, for future reference, whether or not a replacement A/C is available. Even Dometic says that new Penguin units with the newest gas tend to be more noisy and have more vibration than older units with R-22 gas. Mine are older and are still more noisy than my Coleman units on previous RV....just sayin'

Hi lhill,
Do you know what is causing the vibration? The reason I ask is that the rear unit on my coach made more noise than the front unit. After quite a bit of whining from the wife, I went to take a look. After removing the shroud and inspecting the unit, I determined the vibration was the fan motor. The defect was in the rubber bushings holding the motor and supposedly keeping vibration to a minimum. Moving the motor slightly eliminated the vibration. To replace the motor or bushings would have been quite an adventure. It happened I had some foam packing material and stuffed enough of under the motor to take the pressure off the rubber bushings. Problem solved.

GARY, Thanks for the info. That was my next move with my new A/C on the rear of the coach. I really was thinking of stuffing more foam packing material under the rear of the unit first then try something like you did. You just beat me to the punch. One thing I did discover was that the cover on the new unit was solid. However, the cover on my forward old unit has small round vent holes near where the air is expelled from the turbo fan. By switching the covers the noise on the rear unit was lessened some. I personally think the turbo fan is spinning to fast and expelling more air than can escape effortlessly from under the cover. I will try your resolution and see what happens so THANKS.
