My a/c unit is leaking water from rain. If I open the unit it is the black seal that seals the unit to the roof. Is that a special seal???? Do I have to get it from Newmar???

If it is a standard roof mount unit that fits in a 14" opening, a standard foam gasket will work. Get it from any RV dealer.

The hard part is replacing it. You will have to take off the interior cover and loosen the 4 hold down bolts and then disconnect the power to the A/C. Lift up the A/C, remove the old gasket and put the new one in place. Tighten the 4 hold down bolts evenly. After a month of use, tighten the 4 bolts again...just snugged.

DO NOT USE ANY SEALANTS.

Before you pull the unit, try snugging the bolts first.

I can stick my finger in the gasket. Water pours in. The only good thing is you must be driving to force water in. The unit is ducted so there is nothing in the ceiling.

Are you close to a dealer and still under warranty? If so, have them snug it up as Txiceman said or have them replace it. Kind of hard to believe a unit that new would nee to have the gasket replaced this soon. If you do it yourself, remember to just snug the (4) bolts from the inside on each AC if you have more than one.

I fixed the one leaking unit and replace the gasket on the bedroom unit also. Some type of bug has eaten into the gasket. I will replace the third one just in case. The rear unit was close to leaking. I will spray some killer on the roof. When I park the unit at home it is under two big lights that attract these bugs. Any idea how to stop this from happening again???

Be very careful spraying any killer on the roof...it may kill the roof as well as the bugs.

Had a leak on our rear(3rd AC). We found two of the four bolts holding the AC MISSING straight from the factory! Got new bolts at a local RV shop and put in, no problem.

clnhse,
My neighbor had the same problem. Canging the color of the light helped some. For him, the only solution was to turn off the light.
